I have done two courses, one with oxygen and one before I started using it. At the first there was a woman using it and at the second I was 1 of three oxygen users. Perhaps your Doc needs to read up a little?
Pulmonary Rehab BRILLIANT!! wish I could go again. Your doctor is out of date people with oxygen can do it and are encouraged to do so if still ambulant (?) During our rehab we even had a talk from the oxygen nurses to explain things to those of us who do not (yet) use it.
Ivyleaf, Totally agree that your Doc is out of date! Ask the Doc to refer you to the Pulmonary team, so that they can assess you for Pulmonary Rehab, I waited two years for my place on the course, nearly did not get a place because I was 'too fit' but then they offered me a place as there was space. There were two people who also attended who were on Oxygen, one ambulant and the other in a wheelchair. My experience of Pulmonary Rehab is that is a great and really helpful course, I became even fitter and the educational part of the course -which is 50% of it was so beneficial. So Ivyleaf, do firmly request a referral for assessment. And let us kow how you get on.
I go to pulmonary rehab. They asked if I'm on oxyen at home and then gave me a nice big cylinder of the stuff to use as per at home. Your doctor is very wrong.
Hi, I have been to a couple of forum type meetings re: respiratory conditions with the respiratory team and I have seen a number of people on oxygen 24/7 who have been on the pulmonary rehab. Ask another doctor, a practise nurse of referral to the specialist respiratory team in your area. The Local breath easy group might be able to help you. The thing is pulmonary rehab is also about education about COPD - which my husband found invaluable. Please insist on a referral - it is so worth it. Good luck TAD xx ps the first doctor I asked told me that my husband was too well to go on the course (moderate/severe diagnosis) and I had to ask the practise nurse for a referral to the respiratory team who then referred him - and it was worth all the stress to get there!
I will check it again. the Dr im on about is one of the hospital chest team at the oxygen clinic where I go for assessment everyyear.....thank you all for your replys....

Dear Ivyleaf,
We both seem to share the same problem about pulmonary rehab and oxygen. However, I am pleased to know that there is COPD treatment videos which I understand you have already ordered. I'll be grateful if you can send me where I can order one.
Hope you were satisfied with the video and please give me your comments and any other videos you may have heard of so that we can eventually compare notes.
Quite frank disgusted with your doctor. I have been twice to Pulmonary rehabilitation I take my oxgen with me then change over to theirs when I arrive. I was lucky enough to be living in the London Borough of Hillingdon . So was sent to Harefield Hospital they taylor make an exercise programme for your needs whether it be heart condition or lungs. I have moved to Norfolk now so will ask next visit to the local hospital about pulmonary rehab
To continue I have 2copies of the copd dvd and a video when speaking to the physo's at Harefield hospital thy are not that inpressed with them . But I think any exercise is better than no exercise . At Harefield you go for 2hrs 1 doing exercise and 1 in the seminar room having lectures on your meds how your lungs work and different people give talks. Another course I went on there was a singing course to help open up he lungs the teacher came down from the Royal Brompton hospital once a week sorry if I have rambled on but there is help out there
