Having first session today 1pm dreading it but wish me luck...don't know what to except...although I have been given excellent support here and advice still scared but thank you for supporting me over the weeks
Woke up back to be scared and feeling hopeless don't get why
Don't have to be scared Emily61, your going to meet new friends all in the same boat as you. It just nervous of the unknown don't be they are there to help you and believe me you will enjoy it and start to look forward to going.
They will just show you how to do some exercises at your own pace but that will help your condition, have group talks and help you understand how to help yourself, its all to your benefit and I'm sure you'll come to enjoy going.
Other than feeling like the new girl at school to begin with you should have a pleasant surprise and enjoy it. You will meet others with various stages of COPD, above all, everyone will understand how the symptoms affect you. It will also be fun and at the end of the session you will be looking forward to the next one.
I know your right it's just seeing different stages that's scares me.....I know this makes no sense at all but I am so scared of this condition today....I wasn't yesterday or day before may be I was in denial thinking I could control this...
2grey how how can i control a progressive disease....I was going to fight halt the progression...stay at moderate but who am I kidding I am so scared right now

Hopefully the rehab will help to get your fears under control. You lucky so and so. I have a lifetime lung condition which was supposed to have seen me off by the time I was 6. I am now 68! I would love to go to rehab and exercise with others but have been repeatedly refused because I have bronchiectasis not copd.
Do enjoy and I really do hope that it calms your fears.
That's outrageous LP - there was a woman with bronchiectasis at my second course. And she got a lot from it. Shocking.

Why was you denied surely it's for everyone who has a lung condition. My understanding is it's not just copd it's all lung condition

The physio at my hospital in Bham tried and my GP in Warks tried. No go. This is the discrimination that we with bronch experience all of the time. Sometimes one will slip through but generally services open to copd and cf patients are denied to us. After a lifetime of it I just shrug.

That is not fair really everyone should have the same opportunity I am so so sorry
Just dug this out LP,so our European chums were thinking about how to adapt PR courses for people with Bronchiectasis and other respiratory conditions way back in 2013,i imagine they are still thinking about it?
They don’t want to spend the money on us. Luckily for me, the miracle doctor in Leicester whom my Mum found when I was 6 ( 1956) put me through six years of monthly days when I learned to breathe and how to empty my lungs. I had to practice it over and over again until it was second nature. He taught my Mum to take no prisoners with me. March me up cliff paths, throw me into swimming pools and the sea, and beat me stupid twice a day as I lay over a slatted wooden pyramid. Happy days but I am still here. I don’t need all of the advice of PR but I would love to exercise with people who know what it feels like and don’t look down on me if I couldn’t keep up.
Hi LP, Try your Nearest "Breathe Easy Group" We set up ours after having Rehab. Now have two per week, Monday & Thursday, Much the same as the exercises at rehab. 4 years on. When I get my next call for rehab which is due, I merge all the Classes together. I'm in Nottingham, There must be about 15 Groups scattered all over. Good Luck Hun. Carolina XXXX
Went to Breathe Easy in Bham too many years ago to remember. I am not a natural joiner and don’t actually believe that there is one in my area.but thank you for the suggestion.
Sad that there are not any in your Area LP. I am 68 this year and have felt much stronger for going and meeting People the same. We do have a Laugh. 2 new Ladies Joined 2 weeks ago, very shy to start with, But they have brought more Laughter to the Group, This I am grateful for. I hope you are Well as you can be Hunny. Love n Hugs . Carolina xxxxx
We are the same age. I’m glad that you have this access and companionship as I know that you battle more difficulties than I do. My ‘work’ as a volunteer at a local heritage site and the team there keep me going. Although I was like a chewed lettuce after two large primary school groups yesterday. It would just be lovely to exercise with similar people to myself. I might put an enquiry on social media to find out if there are any groups going on.
Yes Hun, do that, I think you may be surprised that there are some Groups near to you...Love your " Chewed Lettuce" explanation, Great to laugh early in the Morning. Keeps us all going. Glad to hear your still working and Enjoy your Colleagues. Keep Strong Chic. XXX
It's probably a bit like the worry I get before going to the dentist, but once I am there it's fine, and when I get home I wonder why I was so anxious.
It's all new to you as well, next time you will know what to expect and it will be easier.
I bet your breathing is a bit faster too, try a bit of pursed lip breathing then gentle breaths after. This can help calm.
Have you got a puzzle book, or crossword to keep your mind occupied, or free internet jigsaws, or a colouring book. They act as a distraction.
I was so confident I could slow this down to a snail's pace then I just thought progressive I am scared of the progression all over again and instead of thinking this will help with my goal I am thinking who am I kidding..scared to asked them if I can slow this down..plus I am so unfit not because of COPD or my asthma I am just so unfit
PR is exactly the thing which will massively improve your fitness levels. And that is what will help control your condition. So be happy, look forward to it, and above all dont be scared to ask your questions. You can be sure there will be others with the same questions in their heads who will be pleased you have. Let us know how you get on Emily
Hi Emily61 I don’t think there are any of us who don’t get nervous of starting a new group whatever it maybe. There will be new people like yourself starting and people who have been going weeks but I’m sure you will meet and chat to people sooner or later. It’s all geared for you to go at your own pace. I started the exercises at 2 minutes and ended up at 4 minutes, by then I was able to finish but if you aren’t you just sit down and get your breath. I enjoyed going in the end. I hope you like it and get on well. Xx😊
Hi Emily. I am starting my first PR tomorrow. Whist I'm not scared I know a little apprehensive. I have just been put on home oxygen and not sure how difficult it will be. I guess I will wait and see . I hope yours went okay!!

You need to have faith have you posted on here lately...please don't suffer alone just please keep posting.. what are you afraid of ...I know my fears but you really need to pray..and post
