My wife complained yesterday that she had been cold at work and couldn't warm up when she got home. So, being nice, I went and turned the gas wall heater up in the bathroom about 5 minutes before she was due in tonight, knowing that she usually goes straight up for a shower.
Not tonight, she decided she needed to prep some food for tomorrow first, so spent 15 minutes in the kitchen with chicken and veg. Then she was messing about in the bedroom, changing the alarm clocks so they would be the right time in the morning. She got stuck with mine, it wouldn't change. That's because mine's automatic and will update itself when the time comes.
Eventually, a good half hour more than normal behind schedule, she headed for the bathroom, talking as she went, so I followed her. Whoosh - the hot air hit me like a ton of bricks, I couldn't breath! She was saying how nice it was and I'm unable to speak.
I had to come out and wave to say I'd talk to her when she's finished. 10 minutes later and I'm breathing again, after a couple of puffs of salbutamol, but have a heck of a sore throat now. A bit like when you've been dry coughing non-stop for 15 minutes, that sort.
Had I gone up and turned the heater back down when I realised she wasn't going straight in then maybe it would not have been bad, but it was like a taste of the sahara. I may be nice and turn the heat up a bit for her, but I'll not be wandering in when it's like that from a cold landing/hallway again.

I hate to think how warm the bathroom was, but it was like swallowing a mouthful of air when you open the oven door and I'm very sore still. The top of my left lung in particular is irritable, making me wince when I breathe in deeply.
I did make cups of tea afterwards, it was almost 11pm by then. I've not had a particularly settled night, our dog knew and kept coming in to check on me as I was on the sofa. Then she decided she needed to go out and answer the call of nature, and again 10 minutes after than and other 3 times in the next hour.
I think she was trying to get me to eat grass or something, you know how dogs do when they have something wrong. I was just getting settled at about 6.30am when the wife got up, the dog trotted off to he sleeping place and we must have both been snoozing shortly afterwards.
If my chest and throat don't improve I'll have to get on to the GP's cover service. It's just like a sore rasping effect at present. Seems to be in the top of the chest rather than in my throat. It could well be the start of a chest infection though, I've not had one for a while...
I'd better not relate these events to the ATOS doctor when he comes or he will be failing me for DLA and certifying me instead !
No, not a chest infection, I've gone back to having a streaming cold again. I've used a full box of tissues this afternoon - yuk. Sneezing and coughing too, it may yet develop into something more gunky. Right now I'm putting cling film over the keyboard so I don't flood it...
I'm putting some soup on for my tea and will then confine myself to the armchair, wrapped in my sleeping bag, and bore myself watching TV. It's getting cold sat here at the computer.
how you doing gordon? the episode with the heater in the bathroom is a really good reminder to us all to be mindful of our conditions at all time's. A relative of mine was saying how the cold weather takes her breath away, and how I should make sure I go out with a scarf around my mouth, I totally agreed, and then earlier today I 'nipped' out for milk, and got myself a mouth full of very cold air, not a nice experience. How was the soup? was it home made? I forget how soup could be really good, ie a food, liquid etc, so thanks for the reminder. I too have sat infront of the tele tonight, hubby has a hangover and went off to bed early, however I got to watch homeland, something I like very much, and I'm reading the latest Susan Hill book, it's a ghost story, something Susan Hill does very well indeed. Loved the fact that your dog hangs out with you when she knows you are poorly, we had a collie years ago who would pick up when I was emotionally upset, and she would just sit with me, leaning against my legs, such a comfort. Yes, it was simply a big change in air temperature that caused me problems. It wasn't hot enough to scorch, just felt that way at the time and knocked me for six.
That seems to have triggered a terrible running nose and sneezing that I've had all day, although I've been eating and drinking OK. I'm a slow eater when my nose is bunged up, I have to stop for air, which is annoying.
The soup was canned, there was a discussion topic about it a while ago but I can't find it now. We were looking at the price in various shops and finding the bargains. I only buy it when it's on offer, so had 14 cans 'in stock' at that time, down to 10 now. I had a tin of veg soup with 3 slices of bread, unbuttered as it soaks the liquid up better.
The TV has driven me nuts. I forget what rubbish there is on. We have cable and freeview , loads of channels, but not much worth bothering with. Ended up with a 999 show, in Blackpool, where they were dealing with drunken women - heavily edited of course. Then had 'man vs food' for a while.
Wife came home and fast forwarded through the x-factor results, then she wanted to watch the rest of NCIS she had started watching earlier. I gave up and put the computer back on. Can't win around here.
Susan Hill, a Scarborough lass, she's been writing for years. The Betrayal of Trust is the latest, according to my niece who is a teacher and seems to read about 50 books a day! She attacks our Kindle library regularly.
Our dog is a border collie, 9 years old now and deaf as a post. Or daft as, not sure which. I think it was probably more her needing to go out several times, rather than being caring and looking after me.
I don't know how I'll sleep tonight. Can't go to bed with a nose running like this, I'll probably head for the sofa with an old towel or something. As well as the box of tissues nearby.
gordon, you certainly have an eventful time of it, and retain a GSOH with it. Makes for very human reading - write your memoirs.! I haven't belonged to this group for very long, but have received friendship and good advice. Into techno stuff?? What do you think about the new kindle fire?? Not unlike ipad, but handier and cheaper???
Actually, it looks very good and, for the price, is an excellent way for someone to get into the world of hand-held computing. Not only will is act as a book reader, it connects via WiFi to the home computer network and can do so many things. Colour touchscreen, plays music, doies email, web browsing - even this site...
I bought my wife a Kindle last year for her birthday, I just wish I could have upgraded it for her this time.
The oner thing to watch is the power supply - you only get a USB lead in the box, so I'm told, so you have to charge it from a PC, unless you have a powered USB hub to connect it to (we have one that was used for my step-daughters first iPod) or you buy the mains charger to go with it.
My GSOH is being stretched at present, I've been full of cold for the past few days, used a few boxes of tissues and no sign of it stopping yet

In between chest infections, I got a nasty messy cold. Bags of tissues - resorted to toilet rolls. Constantly on antibiotics and have a very friendly respiratory nurse.

I understand you have come through some challenges lately, and survived to write some compulsive reading. I hope things are getting more peaceful now.
I now have a kindle fire - a great little machine. It is like a little sister to the ipad. and so much cheaper. I am going to have lots of books, films and music plus all the more practical things in life. bye Annie PS the head cold persists in addition to other nuisances.
Aw hope you feel better soon Gordon. I have just had a steaming cold and am still coughing a bit more than usual but thank goodness its virtually gone now.

Normally, this place is freezing. No central heating, we have wall heaters in the 2 bedrooms and one on the bathroom, downstairs there are 2 old (60s style) gas fires. It's quite cool again now, just turned the fire off in the room
I put the bathroom heater on high the other night, and in the time it took the wife to sort herself out and get up there it was rather warm when we opened the door. She turned it back down almost straight away as she was heading into the shower and knew the heat would stay long enough.
I've still had the streaming nose all day, if I slouch back on the sofa it seems to stop, until I move of course. I'm just having a last session on here before trying to get my head down, I feel shattered today.
