Has anyone heard of prescription for gym passes?

I am sure (!) that I have read either on this blog or somewhere about prescriptions for free gym passes. I mentioned this to my husbands nurse and she looked at me as if I were mad! Has anyone heard of this? Thanks

If you have certain medical problems, in certain areas your GP can refer you to exercise classes which the NHS pay for. In some areas they are called prescription passes

Thank you - perhaps we are not in the right area! I will investigate.

I live in Suffolk and was refered to the local hospital to the COPD program. This included twelve sessions at the gym. If i want to carry on going i can for £3.50 per session.

I live in Suffolk but they turned me down for PR because I had a stent put in. Unusual excuse the respiratory nurse said. They are going to get me into a Norfolk one instead.

yes got this scheme in south yorkshire its a twelve weeks course at local gym monitored nominal charge and chance to continue after with cheaper membership really beneficial to me

Hi I live in Torquay and we don't get gym passes. What we do get is a reduced payment with the nhs picking up the rest. These normally run for a set period ie 10 weeks or so. I wanted to go to my local gym and I was told that If I got a letter from my doctor (which I did becaue I am overweight) I would only be charged 25 per month rather than 35.00. x

Thank you so much for your answers. I will now go and talk to the doctor! TAD xx
