early covid vaccine

Wow! I am angry! Just went to my local clinic having booked online to get my covid vaccine as I developed bronchiectasis following a very bad bout of covid infection in spring of 23. No issues getting it early last time.

The woman doing the jabs this morning asked why I was there and asked what medication I took. When it transpired that I don’t take steroids, she consulted another person then told me I didn’t fulfil the criteria for the jab. I told her I was immunocompromised and showed her blood test results, but she still said I couldn’t have it. I stayed seated when she was waiting for me to leave and said adamantly that I didn’t think this was correct. The other woman came over, a qualified medic I think, and examined my blood test results and concluded that I could have the vaccination as I had a very low white blood cell count. What a battle though. Sorry for rant but we shouldn’t have to fight to try and stay healthy.😤

I’m with you Seagullcity. It’s a disgrace! I’m Pete’s registered carer yet wasn’t invited for a spring Covid booster. Pete asked about that when he had his earlier this month and they said l could have it. I’m booked in for the 23rd.

Who do they think will care for Pete if I’m struck down by Covid? Never mind the fact that he would be at risk too. No jab is 100% protective.

I’m pleased you managed to get the jab after all that palaver. Xxxx

Ridiculous! Well done you for standing (sitting!) up to them. I don't think you can book the jab unless you are deemed to have reason for it, so why would it be questioned? 🤷‍♀️🙄 xx

Good for you in staying there until you got it !

Thank you. I’ve calmed down now. I briefly had visions of being dragged out kicking and screaming, but glad it didn’t come to that.

Stress you don't need for sure. I feel like that whenever I manage to get an appointment at GP practice "are they going to listen and am I going to get fobbed off and have to fight my corner " 😡. BP goes up, pulse races. It's not good enough really but I'm very glad you got your vaccination. P

Well done you!! You shouldn’t have had any problem getting your covid jab.

Hi last year I was told bronchietasis has been removed from the vaccine list for spring inoculations but I am allowed covid with flu vaccine in October so now only 1 a year it's ridiculous how the parameters get changed to cut costs and affect lots of lives

It’s hardly cost cutting if we broncs catch covid and end up in hospital with pneumonia…..

Very true there is that in the long run 🤔

My local Well pharmacy invited my husband and me by text to book our spring Covid jabs. He is eligible, being over 75. According to the NHS website, I was not. The pharmacist asked me if I have a long-standing health condition, and I said: yes, COPD with asthma overlap, which my records would support. He gave me the booster jab too.

I was invited by the NHS and by GP practice (that’s a first). I still had to prove I was immune suppressed and therefore entitled. He did take my word for it and didn’t demand paperwork though.

Even though I got invited by the NHS to have the jab, I still had to show what medication I took to qualify for it.

I’m pleased you managed to get your vaccination eventually but it’s stress we could do without. I havnt managed to get mine yet as I’m trying to get my Pneumonia jab in first but GP’s are refusing. I’ve no idea why even the little things are so difficult these days.

Good luck, I hope you get it ok. My gp arranged my pneumonia vax with me even having to ask, so occasionally things do go alright.

Thanks I will be very surprised if our GP's could get anything right currently. I eventually got my Shingles Jab 6 weeks ago then the second part last week. Being immunosuppressed due to RA meds. I should have had it years ago 25 to be exact but they refused so I just gave up. I noticed that the Dr who agreed to the second one last week put on my NHS app that I am immunocompetent & will have my second part in 6 months time!! Neither are correct. That's just another thing to sort out this week. I have contacted my Rheumatologist to inform her & she or her secretary are calling me next week. I'm fairly sure if she tells them then they will have to agree. We will see.

I'm glad you stood your ground, but quite understand why you're angry. Why oh why do we have to use so much energy fighting for what we are entitled to?

I feel your angst! I had similar experience last Thursday. Nurse said I didn’t qualify for jab, I’m under 75 and not immune suppressed, I do have steroids as rescue pack though and I said I’d taken them within the last 4 weeks, she asked if I was sure because if it was 5 weeks ago I wouldn’t be able to have jab…..flipping jobsworth!! I did tell her, as part of a sing to breathe group, we had a visit a few weeks ago from an NHS person, telling us where the vaccinations would be, when the booking line opened and told us to ensure we got the spring jab as we are ‘at risk group’!!

Pleased you got yours but really we shouldn’t have to battle for a jab! X

Remember, the NHS is often 'on its knees'..... I know all medical and clerical staff are doing their very best. Patience is key and kindness is fundamental.

Best wishes

Yes indeed and this I fully understand and sympathise with. But 15 months, 6 GPs, numerous appointments, X-rays, blood tests, repeatedly being fobbed off and told everything is normal en route to diagnosis, has taught me to be politely, respectfully and fundamentally insistent, S
