holidays and colomycin

I have travelled extensively whilst nebulising different antibiotics. I have never had to declare it as anything special when buying insurance because it is regular medication.
When you say nebulising AB is a regular medication, did you mention that it was used regularly to the travel insurance company ?
Do you have to?
I did not have to tell them .You start by telling them your condition and then they ask the questions. This is usually have you been hospitalised which has not been planned in the last year and how many exacerbations you have had in that year. Basically is your condition under control. I have never been asked what mefication I am on. It is declaring all conditions that you have which is most important.
I have done many cruises including 2 world cruises when I was nebulising ab the whole time. The ins company did not ask for ongoing medication.
I use Staysure for holiday insurance. I have a complicated medical history and I like the fact that when we discuss things they are extremely thorough and I feel confident with them. They also keep in file your details so last time I needed insurance we only needed to discuss in detail any new issues. Other things we went through but only to check no changes.
I trawled the internet and was surprised to find people ready to insure me with all my assorted diseases for a reasonable price. How good they would be if you needed them I do not know. I have usually used Saga, who are dear but good. I'm not on Colomycin, so I'm afraid my answer isn't much help.
play safe and declare the condition that the colomycin has been prescribed for, otherwise you may be leaving a get out clause for the insurance company
I’ve never had to declare my separate meds. Perhaps asked if I use a nebuliser. Make sure you declare your conditions and call your holiday company/airline to advise you will have liquid meds and nebuliser in your hand luggage. They should give you extra allowance for this. Make sure you carry your latest prescription and a letter from the hospital if you have one listing your condition. Most of all have a great holiday.
Thank you to all that replied to my question re- holidays & colomycin, I wish you all well for the future.
Age UK offer travel insurance which is through All Clear, but you get a better price if you go though Age UK. The only claim I've made through them was for flight delay, so can't say how they are if you get ill or anything else, but I highly recommend them.
I take my Colomycin with me on holiday travel. The only thing is that they sometimes do a check at security more for the saline water liquid. I have never declared it; it goes in my walk-on luggage. I have been taking it with me for years.
Hi, I’ve always used Staysure and declared my bronchiectasis. As I haven’t been hospitalised with it and it’s mainly under control with antibiotics, they haven’t charged extra.
I made the mistake once of telling them I have pseudomonas and the increase in cost made the holiday way too expensive. I no longer mention it 🤷.
Hi Moodygirl, so when buying the insurance how do you answer the question about having an infection an if it is resolved or not? This is the bit that is getting me n a fix as my pseudomonas is still there and after different antibiotic tablets I now have colomycin. to take. so according to their rules my infection isn't resolved in that it is still there.
Hi Crackle
I don’t recall being asked about an infection. I said I had bronchiectasis; that I hadn’t been hospitalised, and that my bronch was kept under control by antibiotics (co amoxiclav). I wasn’t being treated for pseudomonas at the time although it was colonised.
I was keeping reasonably well and always took my emergency antibiotics with me so didn’t feel the need to mention pseudomonas. That was a few years ago. I’ve just started nebulising colomycin this last week so I’m hoping the pseudomonas will be kept under control.
I don’t know what questions they ask now for travel insurance but I’d hope not to get so ill as to need emergency treatment. It’s difficult enough to get emergency treatment in this country. 😩
