Very breathless

I had a copd review with the respiratory nurse after my spirometry results came in, I explained to her that during the spirometry test I was first given salbutamol via a nebuliser, I was able to breathe much easier afterwards, less breathlessness when going home etc, I asked about the possibility of the GP prescribing salbutamol if I bought my own nebuliser, she told me that GP's are no longer allowed to supply nebulisers or even the salbutamol anymore and that only the hospital can authorize their use.

Has anyone have any suggestions how to to persuade my GP to refer me the the hospital?

I'm just starting the Lung journey and although not needing a nebuliser currently I have the diagnosis of ACOS and have been prescribed an inhaler - Easyhaler with Salbutamol. All I'm saying is that in one format at least Salbutamol is being prescribed..... at least with an inhaler ....... for what its worth.

I have Salbutamol inhaler 100 micrograms . And a preventer Qvar

Also emergency nebuliser …nebule size 2.5 ml

absolute rubbish. As with rescue packs some will pprobably be scribe others wont. Before buying your nebulixer you need to be certain of a supp.y of nebs probably ten years ago I purchased one and have sine purchased nebs here or usually abroad, again only for use in case of exacerbation

My salbutamol is on my repeat prescription & I just order as & when necessary, try to speak to your doctor about this, I don’t use a nebuliser so have no experience with that, good luck with it 😊👍🏻

The registrar at hospital prescribed a nebulizer for.me. my GP gives me the medication on prescription. It ceased to work but my Respiratory team exchanged it for a new one. No extra cost have never paid for one.

Not sure about nebulisers Doggie. My understanding is that they are only prescribed by hospital consultants. However, I was told by the nurse at my respiratory clinic (hospital) that 10 puffs of a salbutamol inhaler (the blue one) is equivalent to a nebuliser.

My consultant got my nebuliser for me and keeps it maintained with new filters, mouth pieces and tubes.. My salbutamol is on repeat prescription with my Dr's as I only use nebuliser in a flare up or chest infection to help clear mucus

Just talk to your doctor and see what their take is on the suppliying it to you. If they can not they will push you to the right deptartment at the hospital to get it sorted.

I have Salbutamol along with another drug, both from my doctor no problem on repeat. (He did say they were going over to dry sprays instead of the ones you inhale. (Like the other one i have FGOSTAIR NEXThaler (dry powder)

I would challenge that Doggie. Originally my GP said he couldn't prescribe me a nebuliser, but that he could prescribe the solution to be used in it if I purchased one myself. As it happens, I was admitted to hospital as an emergency a couple of days later so I asked the doctor on the respiratory ward about it. He said that he would rather that the hospital issue me a nebuliser so that they can make sure it is properly maintained (though they never have) and my doctor has never quibbled about prescribing me the salbutamol for it. If your doctor refuses again, maybe talk to your respiratory consultant at the hospital? Good luck, hope you get one sorted. Sally xx

New to this site .... sorry I've recently been diagnosed with Bronchilatisis I was referred yo the respitory physio who then gave me the 24 hr number to the respitory nurses. They came out to see me straight away took bloods and other checks at home prescribed me with a different antibiotic and also a nebuliser. After being under there care for several weeks to help me feel better They have give me a long term nebuliser I take 4 times a day .

Maybe you could speak to your local nurses for help .

I'm back in work now after months off being on the sick . Only thing is I'm struggling especially with the cold weather .

Hi, I think it depends where you live. My hospital & GP's Surgery don't provide the Nebuliser, I had to buy my own. They do provide the Nebs to go in them. I get my Nebs on prescription from NHS xxx

Hi, yes, same here, I bought a nebuliser and my consultant added the varying types of saline to my repeat prescriptions, I think as with everything in the NHS it depends where you live xx
