NEW TREATMENT

Hello, I hope you are all well and had a fantastic Christmas and New Year. My story begins back in November I got a severe chest infection and was put on antibiotics and steroids. It cleared up, but then a week before Christmas, I got another chest infection. Now, into the new year, I am on my third round of antibiotics and steroids I still can't breathe unless I on the steroids. My asthma nurse has changed my treatment to Fostair 100/6 MART and Spiriva Respimat 2.5mcg Currently, I am experiencing terrible shakes and was wondering if anyone has experienced this on this regimen?

Hi obiwhan and welcome to the forum. I’m sure you will get replies soon but I would suggest you get in touch with your doctor and explain how you’re feeling. Make a note of what’s happening so you don’t forget anything.

Hope you feel better soon. Xxxx

Welcome to the forum. Sorry I can't help with the shaking. Have you had a sputum test to determine exactly which infection you are suffering from? It sounds very persistent and the right antibiotic might be needed to knock it on the head.

I'm the same, chest infections for 7 weeks. Two specimens and antibiotics specific to bacteria and clear X ray. Still coughing and now on 6th lot of antibiotics. Microbiology were contacted so the right dosage is given. Good luck I hope you get better.

Hi, yes, unfortunately the shakes can be a symptom of fostair. I’m on both of those…but fostair 200 but always get the shakes for about an hour or so after taking it. I know of others that do too.

I have been through varying regimes of meds for asthma but this seems to be the one that works most effectively for me…along with other medications. However, if it’s feeling too problematic and doesn’t ware off , it’s definitely worth going back to your asthma nurse/GP to see if there are other options for you.

The asthma nurses from Asthma UK are also great to talk to for advice so you could give them a call too…I don’t know the number off the top of my head but you can google them or someone here might be able to add the link.

Hope you start feeling better soon…it sounds like you’ve been having a rough time!

Was the second infection the same or a different bug? If it was the same, are you sure you really got rid of the first?

I stopped having chest infections one after the other when we eradicated black mould in our home.

One infection I had wouldn't go away with oral AB (March to November 2014), and only stopped with an intravenous one. That bug was Staphylloccus Aureus.

hi obiwhan . After 3 chest infections in fairly quick succession my GP referred me to a Thoracic Consultant ( I did however have some blood in the mucus). Sometimes there is a need for a CT Scan. Could you not ask for a more in-depth check on your lungs?

Yes I will do this if it hasn’t improved much after finishing steroids and antibiotics

Hello obiwhan, sadly there are about four bugs doing the rounds this winter. As you are asthmatic its not strange to be struggling to ward them off. Shaking is common with some inhalers, but if its excessive maybe your doctor could find a different inhaler for you with less shakes. I have a benign essential hand tremor and the inhalers do make it worse . Every best wish that this difficult time will soon be over and you will be fit to enjoy the spring.

I'm in exactly the same boat as you. I could literally be describing myself. 3 lots of antibiotics cant shake it off..The shakes I was told was "normal" and not to worry about it. But to me these tremors/shakes aren't what I would say is normal... I personally don't like them makes me panic xx
