Hi all I'm a newbie here. I've really suffered this past month with a consistent chest infection that wouldn't go despite 3 lots of antibitocs and 2 lots of steroid tablets. I've been using genuair inhailer for a while prior to the chest infection.
Has anyone experienced a chesty cough and blocked nose whilst using this inhailer or am I turning into a hypercondriact lol 😆

You don't say which antibiotic you were given or for how long. Usually a general antibiotic like Amoxicillin is not strong enough, and you need to take any antibiotic for a fortnight for it to knock out the bugs. Sorry I can't help about the inhaler, but other people on this forum have had to try several before finding one that suited them, so it might be worth having a chat with your GP.
Since you have not yet received a diagnosis of which chest infection you have, I would say a fortnight of Doxycycline or something stronger would be needed. Has anyone suggested a sputum test to find out which bug is lurking in your lungs? Assuming you are producing sputum, that is a good idea.
you haven’t been given a strong enough antibiotic for a long enough time to knock out the bacteria. A course should be at least a week to tendays and for someone with a condition like bronchiectasis two weeks. Each time they have changed you on to a less effective antibiotic for a pathetically short time. Get back to the doc, educate them and bang the table.
It's been never ending.. I usually get the winter chest infection and given antibiotics and prednisone straight away. This time they just gave me an inhailer.. it all started on 26th Nov to and throwing from GP and walk in then sent to A and E for xray was told upper/lower lung infection on the 3rd of December. Que back and forth to GP and 3 different antbitocs later. Felt really good last few days. Woken up this morning chesty cough and wheezing is back. And can't breath thru my nose but it isn't blocked. I've honestly had enough I just want to feel normal xx
The antibiotics obviously knocked the bugs back a bit, but left enough for them to breed and make a comeback. I remember being the same, until my surgery finally sent me to a consultant.
You're not alone, many of us started out poorly lungs life this way. I had over 3 years like that endless infections, antibiotics, 3 x pleurisy plus 5 x pneumonia . My immune system was shot to pieces - as yours will be before long! Fighting infections (viral & bacterial) deplete immunity as do antibiotics so you can rebuild yours yourself with copious vitamins minerals tonics and local honey (I used expensive Manuka honey years ago but I was desperate) also pre & probiotics in my personal opinion. Above all though you need a thoroughly decent antibiotic for at least 10 days - preferably at least 2 weeks because this has gone on long enough. Doxycycline is a decent one but 3 days??? I've never ever heard that one in almost 12 years of being on this patient's forum. Jeez its shocking. The normal thing would be for the gp to request a spuputum test to be tested for which bacteria you're growing and which antibiotics will work on it. It's hard to be proactive when you're feeling lousy but work at it you must.
