Recently and now ,i had some kind of flu, painfull throat, runny nose and cough,
I had severe cough with pleghm ,yellow and thick and very dense,
My doc put me on antibiotics and i feel much better but still cough and producing pleghm but much less.
One time when i violently coughed i see red blood dot, like grain of sand size,
That dot was separated from pleghm but i coughed it.
I went to the doctor again and had chest X ray,
Xray shows bronchitis and nothing more, doc said to home and rest and not to worry, she says it is probably from throat or broken capilar somewhere from cough.
So what can i do now,to ask for CT or something else?
Can red blood dot be from bronchitis and coughing hard?
I feel now better and almost no symptoms ,just little cough,no fever.
Thanks in advance..

That is really a miniscule amount of blood compared to that which those of us with serious lung conditions can produce. It is from a tiny blood vessel bursting during hard coughing owing to the infection. You may see some more until the antibiotics knock the infection on the head. As there are some pretty nasty chest infections about it would be a good idea to go back for more antibiotics if the phlem doesn"t clear up at the end of this course. There doesn't seem a case for a scan at this point unless you have symptoms going on after the infection is dealt with. The best thing that you can do for yourself is to stop smoking.
I don’t think you’ve anything to worry about at all. Violent coughing and general chest soreness often produces a spot of blood. Sounds like your gp has given you very good treatment. Just remember, you have lovely healthy lungs atm, but no one is immune to lung disease. Ffs stop risking your health by smoking! If it’s only social smoking it’ll be easy to stop
as your doctor has said, do not worry ! Coughing a lot can bring up phlegm / blood as we cough the strain can cause a bleed. You visited the doctor and her advise to me seems sound
If you get this thick phlegm again, ask your doctor if Carbocisteine would be appropriate. Many of us take this to loosen phlegm and make it easier to cough up.
Hello, sorry you have been so unwell - it does take time and good self care to recover from these health insults.
You have had a great response here to your plight.
Am not sure where you live, although in England there is a scheme for folk who would like to stop smoking - vapes can help and are free within a scheme called Swop to Stop. Take a look on the internet to find a scheme near you or ask your doctor.
Last time i smoked few months ago,but i cant tell im not smoker ,sometimes when i drink i smoke cigar, but i not buying cigs regulary. My plan from 2025 to not smoke at all.
I live in germany but my borntown is in eastern europe, belgrade.
Thank you all for replies
Today i feel better ,looks like my infection cleared,i hope i will not cough up blood again.
Its obviously i have some kind of ocd, because for me,blood in pleghm = lung cancer.
Health anxiety is almost as bad as actually having an illness. My health is poor, but for some reason I don’t worry about it, yet a friend who’s fit & well drives herself insane imagining she has cancer. You can’t enjoy your good health feeling like that so my advice would be to get the anxiety treated. Stop smoking for good, get lots of exercise, eat healthily and you’ll likely have a long and healthy life 😊
I wouldn’t worry too much about it unless it starts happening again or regularly. Often with a chest infection or hard coughing any of us could cough up a bit of blood. I would be reassured by the chest X Ray.
hi, I agree with your doc, when you cough lots it can be blood from your throat, first time it happened to me I too freaked out but it’s 25years later now. Try not to worry.
