Help from a stranger

I am 68 and have COPD, I have had a bad cough for months, and my son had asked me several times to go to the cinema out of town with him, but I would of coughed through the film. I went for a walk on the promenade out of town, i was coughing so much , I had to sit down, a gentleman came to me, he was on oxygen, he said he had COPD, and gave 3 sweets, try these they will make you feel better, won't cure your cough though, but they will help and those sweets have really helped, I don't cough so much anymore, what he gave was Jakeman's throat and chest menthol sweets, can get them from Boots chemist or online at Amazon. I went to the cinema last night, I coughed only once, and I thank that stranger for his help

The kindness of strangers is a wonderful thing. I’m glad you got to go to the cinema. And that you’re coughing less. For me it’s Fisherman’s Friends that work, a tip I picked up from here. I might just try those sweets too though. 👍

I will try fisherman's friend too.

That's great it's funny how things work. I once a soar chest in the center for about 2 years it felt like it was tearing everytime i coughed, and one day my daughter got me a mcflurry ice cream and it give me chest freeze loll and my cest got better straight away and not come back again :) so now i eat ice cream and tip tops they seem to work well.

I wonder why it does that

Well I presume it's my asthma and not the copd as it irritates my airways. x

That’s a wonderful story and I’m pleased the sweets are helping you. How fortunate the stranger came to your aid.

Wishing you well. Xxxx

I agree welshtony! Jakemans are brilliant for a cough-55p a packet in Tesco. If a cough stops me sleeping I pop one of the sweets in my cheek & it always stops it.

Not heard of Jakemans but interesting to know that they help. It was kind and thoughtful of the gentleman who came to your aid and shows what a difference someone with experience and understanding of a disease can make.

If you can't get to Tesco, most newsagents or chemists sell them. I wouldn't be without my Jakemans XXX

Yes someone told me about Jakemans too and I found them very good. Last time I looked they were 59p in Superdrug. x

Wow thats amazing. Surprising that some of the old remedies are still the best. Even with modern ideas and medicines. Hope you continue to cough less

Yup, always have Jakemans and Fisherman's Friends in my music bag and handbag. Great advice from here to keep them handy.

Glad you found something to help you and how kind of that man who stopped to help you. When coughing badly are you ever bringing up phlegm? If so can I suggest you ask your GP if you could possibly have bronchiectasis but a scan showed I did and it is the cause of my constant coughing, so just a thought

Isnt it great when kind people help out when needed. I always use one when I start my walk to Tescos as they help to breathe better and stop me coughing. I still keep fishermans friend in my bag as well, just in case x
