Bronchiectasis.. just starting effervescent NAC …..do I need to continue carbocysteine with it for a while???

Hi

Just been prescribed eff NAC to replace carbocysteine .. just wondering if this works almost straight away or do I have to run with the carbocysteine in tandem for a short while?

Any advice on this would be greatly appreciated 🙏

It won’t matter if you take them both, but there’s no need to, & doing so could upset your stomach

just wondered if the NAC worked the same day you take it as I know it takes a few weeks for the carbo to take effect

Neither of them worked for me, which apparently is the case for two-thirds of bronchs. Those with copd seem to have more luck. I wish you well!

I just changed straight over to the Nacsys as the carbosysteine wasn’t really working for me and feel so much better on it. 😊

It’s a mucolytic…thins mucus in your lungs ..to ease coughing it up during chest clearance

Hi I just changed over next day stopped the carbocysteine and took the nacsys effervescent tablet as prescribed in water on gp advice

It’s going well thanks.. early days ..but seem to be bringing up more stuff ( have to say my weeks can vary anyway though😬) & Find it so much easier than remembering to take carbo.

Do you use it? I’m Still not sure when the best time to take the NAC is …🤔
