I’m new to this forum . Been having severe asthma flare ups my doctors starting to wonder if it’s something else I am in the process of further testing. I was just wondering if if asthma people on here have same issues. I’m currently on Tezspire biologic. I get tightness in chest , filled with mucus, very winded at times of a simple task, when I go through a really bad flare feels like my lungs are full of mucus and I am drowning in it. My heart reset comes crazy when mucus clogs my lungs. It’s been nothing but a battle for me past year and half Tezspire did help relieve symptoms here and there but still break through symptoms on steroids again ect. I’m on symbicort still no real relief. Almost like every month these is symptoms going into a flare. I do have slight bronciactisis but not that severe. Just wondering other people’s symptoms.
Thanks everyone

Welcome to the forum.how do uu manage yr bronchiectasis?it does require self discipline to keep lungs clear, usually cpl x a day - take a look at lung clearance techniques on asthma Lung uk website.lots of us take a prescribed mucolytic eg carbocysteine to thin mucous, make it easier to get up.ru also on salbutamol inhaler
Hi I agree with patk1 clearance techniques are a must usually using a device and a mucolyte and a routine of getting the mucus out daily. Bronchiectasis sufferers also are very prone to germs and viruses which also have a bearing on how often you become ill needing a rescue pack of antibiotics and steroids
Hi Sandlot23 and welcome to the site. I have mild bronchiectasis but it can feel severe if I have an jnfection. I had terrible problem's a few years ago when my sinus's got infected. Perhaps your gp could send you for a ct scan to check your chest and sinus's . In the meantime check with your gp if you could try out antihistamine as they dry up the mucus. I hope you get to feel better soon x
Hi welcome, sorry to hear about your problems. Im asthmatic all my life, had a lot of green mucous in my left lung for 3 years as doctors kept taking sputum samples came back haeumophillus Influenzae kept giving me doxycycline which should have worked but it never did. Was referred to hospital under lung function and put on Azythromycin 500mg as i had white mass in left lung. Ive been on carbocyctine for years was taught the lung clearance technique also. 9 months of taking Azythromycin finnally got rid of the thick sticky mucous and have been free of it since just before the covid hit so feel very lucky. Hope my story helps you somehow. Good luck Karen xxx
Hi Sandlot23, welcome to the asthmalungUK patient's forum you're in absolutely the right place to garner other members experience with asthma, asthma plus add ons and other lung diseases. I too am on Carbocysteine a mucolytic, it softens the mucus making it easier to expel - and getting it up & out is vital to help prevent bacteria growing in that perfect warm wet environment down there. There are some nasty bugs which can colonise the lungs. The Huffing Technique is one I do - but then I don't have too much mucus. Blowing through a straw in a glass of water another, devices ie aerobika (&/or acapella may be available on amazon or on prescription). Postural Drainage is what several members with bronchiectasis do two or three times a day
I'm so pleased that you're having further testing and hope that's via a consultant who specialises in bronchiectasis as well as asthma and will involve a CT scan showing whats going on. Your lungs may well be swimming in mucus if your airways are so inflamed it cannot come up (years ago a friend's child had a very bad infection - she 'doesn't believe in antibiotics' - he was hospitalised, well over a pint of infected mucus was drained out of his lungs. The drain remained for a while) .
There's a professional on the end of the helpline, please do give them a call tomorrow on 0300 222 5800 09.15 to 5pm Mon to Fri. Good luck, be sure to let us know how you get on. P
Edit: forgot to say, I take Azithromycin 250mgs on Mon Wed Fri from November to April which has helped enormously in keeping infection at bay. Many others take the same or another ab either in winter or all year round.
Hello Sandlot23, I come from an asthmatic family . Maybe your doctor might be correct , however I would suggest you investigate the drug given for side effects . Many drugs have minor side effects that can make symptoms of certain deceases worse . Lots of drugs have cough as side effect, some drugs narrow airways which makes it harder to get rid of mucus meaning you may need a mucolytic type drug to countermand the original drug. But only your GP can work on that with you. We found often just reducing to the lowest dose of a drug can help worth considering as you say it does help some. But in your case there, may be other options. Certain foods cause more thicker mucus so worth looking at food's too. an old friend of mine used to say a rum & black helped. I find an herbal tea with no milk or a fruit juice thins secretions. All options are worth a try.
Last year I was quite poorly and was taking doxycycline for a bronch/asthma flare up which wasn’t disappearing then another doctor said she thought it was my sinuses and put me on a steroid inhaler which helped me enormously. I would say a scan and sputum sample maybe the way forward Definitely a chat with your GP. Xx
It’s been quite frustrating. I just done sputum sample. I did do cat scan in past and been doing saline for mucus 7 percent. My spirometer comes back normal even when I feel like I can’t take deep breath as there is mucus sitting at bottom of lungs.
Keep working hard to get it up,or it will keep getting infected+ cause more damage.do all u can to avoid people with viruses as they can trigger exacerbation of both asthma & bronchiectasis, creating more gunk to cough up.do u use salbutamol prior to saline,to dilate Airways? Self care is the main component in managing bronchiectasis
I mix albuterol and saline in nebulizer and do it as one treatment. I just can’t understand how my lungs burn constantly and tightness in chest. She did tell me to buy an aerobika. I just feel I go through a flare every month. I’m on symbicort, tezspire , Singulair ,Allegra . Still having issues
I use the aerobika - it is available on prescription. I use it with acbt with huffing technique, postural drainage and gentle percussion.ru managing to get the mucous up? If not,I'd request to see respiratory physio, meanwhile using the lung clearance techniques.i use salbutamol 1st,to dilate Airways before using hypertonic saline. Have u put a specimen in for testing? U could request to swap to a different biologic.im on fasenra, waiting to change
I realy feel for you it's awfull my daughter has asthma and years ago her asthma belive it or not it lasted 20 weeks then went away for about 3 weeks then came back for roughly 3 ta 4 weeks luckily it passed and hers is also a cough awfull I was passed mysel but last couple years it only surfaces with a cold no matter what they give her it wouldn't go but eventually it went
that’s exactly how I feel nothing is working. Whatever work it’s for short time. I can’t get break I don’t even know what my triggers are I feel like it creeps up out of no where.
How long have you been diagnosed with asthma? How old were you when you were diagnosed? Is this a flare up of a more low key asthma? Did the flare up begin with a flu or covid or exposure to a pollution (bush fire/mould issue/ exposure to any type of smoke/gas)?
When you have had blood or allergy tests did they show anything unusual?
I had it as a child I was really young but only when I was sick. But then the brush fires send me in to er with severe bronchospasm out of nowhere. Ever since it’s been non stop. I did have a lot mucus issues in the past and wondering if I have something else going on with asthma
