Eosinophilic Asthma

My consultant at the hospital suggested I have this type of asthma. Apparently your white blood cells attack your lungs. I was put on a one year study and I’m now permanently on the injection once a month. In the US the brand name is Nucala, here it’s Mepolizumab.

I’ve been on Trial here Benralizumab, but it was obvious to me I was on the placebo unfortunately. Would like to try the real thing.

Yes, I’m on that since it was first licensed back in 2017?? Saved my life, no doubt about it. Absolutely remarkable medication!

I’m now on a triple dose of this each month as my Eucinophillic asthma is associated with EPGA/ Churg STRAUSS Syndrome, but NICE have not licensed it in uk for this but luckily in in Jersey, & we’re not in NHS, so was able to get it.

Absolute lifesaver! I get some considerable fatigue & do feel pretty unwell for 4-5 days afrer injection but that’s a small price to pay each month to be able to BREATHE!

Good Luck!

Rose

Hi Rose, I don’t have any soreness or reaction to mepolizumab.

That’s GREAT! I didn’t notice a consistent improvement for several months, so don’t be despondent if you don’t see an improvement at once.

Good luck!

Hi. I hope the new meds works for you. Can I ask which Consultant and which Hospital please? I'm in central London. So if it's outside it's no use to me. But others might benefit.

Hi , I live in Derby. It’s certainly something you could ask your consultant about. x

my husband has been on this injection without any good results unfortunately . But horses for courses. Perhaps he’s not got that type of asthma after all.

Have they not suggested other biologics? X

In short No. ATM trying him back on high dose prednisone again. I suppose will reduce gradually again. He’s been really struggling for over 2 years now and has had to pack up work and our life is now severely restricted.Nothing seems to help and I don’t think they know what’s causing such chronic asthma . It’s not COPD

🤷‍♀️
