Hi everyone. I hope you are ok. I have just tested positive for Covid. I have COPD, asthma and Crohn’s and am really really anxious. I was due to have my covid and flu vaccines next week. I was hospitalised earlier this year with chest infection and am so scared that it’s going to happen again. Does anyone have any advice on how to deal with covid and some positive thoughts pls, I really am scared, thank you x

Best ring 111 for advice ….tell them you have Covid , COPD asthma and Crohns and your hospital stay .
The ALUK helpline isn’t open until Monday , but 111 could help .
Have you got an oximeter, to check your oxygen levels .
Are you more breathless than usual, got all your medications to hand ?
But ring 111 .
These things always seem to happen at the weekend , my asthma got worse last Saturday so went to the pharmacist for advice about my new inhaler .

you must get the antivirus frug from your doctor as soon as possibly. Think it may have to be within 2 days. I may wrong.
Eligibility is very restricted though, ladyn. Paxlovid, the tablet, clashes with a lot of our drugs so then it’d have to be an infusion in hospital - which doesn't take long but is so hard to arrange especially at the weekend.

Oh dear you’ve had a torrid time lately, you poor thing. Mercifully I haven’t yet tested positive for covid. I recently fell ill with a different horrible virus but that’s irrelevant to you. All I’ll say is, the purpose of vaccines is to reduce the impact of covid, so you should have a relatively mild illness, especially if your last jab was within 6 months. And even if it’s longer, you should retain some immunity. OTry for the anti-virals but as knitter says, it’s important with covid to keep an on your sats, and yes, alert 111.
Hello. Thank you for your advice. My last covid vaccine was last December so hopefully I’ll have some protection still. I’ve been really careful about covid. Been wearing masks in shops lately but my husband came home with covid. We’ve been so careful staying in separate rooms, windows open, wearing masks, gloves, antibac etc but unfortunately I still caught it. Have got my rescue pack on standby 🤞
111 are really helpful and the 1st time I had covid they arranged paxlovid antivirals and delivered by courier but they will go through your medical history 1st to see your eligibility and medication. Good luck and try to get lots of rest and fluids .I have had covid 2 times and recovered in 3 days with no antivirals 2nd time .I have asthma bronchiectasis and copd
I hope you soon start to feel a bit better. For what it's worth, since I'm not as ill as you, I 've had covid twice and the first 36 hours were the worst. I then started to feel a little better and gradually got better. The second time it knocked me out and I picked up a couple of infections in the next 2 months. Must have been a nastier strain of the virus. Best wishes. Be gentle on yourself and don't overdo it as you recover, as I'm sure you will. xxx
you may need antiviral meds. Contact your surgery if they are open or 111 today as you need asap if you qualify
Hi, I was terrified too. I have bronchiectasis and asthma . I was quite ill but been worse with bronchiectasis tbh. Got worse after two weeks with sinusitis and chest infection . Doc gave me doxycycline and it sorted me very quickly I'm glad to say. I drank loads, rested and generally looked after myself . It just was not as bad as I thought it was going to be. Good luck.
Hi, sympathies I had it in June. It was my first and wasn't nearly as bad as I'd expected - perhaps due to having had the vaccinations and boosters. I stayed in obviously drank plenty of fluids, took paracetamol for first day for the slight feverishness, also I booked my immunity to help fight it with drinking effervescent vitamin c 1000mg twice daily, local honey in warm water. I don't know if your Crohns will let you do the vitamin C but there are stomach friendly tablet versions. Thinking of you, as knitter says don't hesitate to call 111 or 999 if you need to. ×××
First of all try not to be scared. Covid is much less dangerous than it was especially if you have had your vaccinations. My wife and i came back from holiday in June and brought Covid back with us. It did affect her more than the last time we had it and it is taking longer to get over it, but try to stay warm, take your usual medication and if you are still concerned then ring 111 for advice. I think we all understand how scary these things are. Were you given a PCR test to keep at home during the pandemic? The idea being that if you tested positive with the standard home tests, you took a PCR test and if confirmed positive you could receive the antivirus drugs. They must be taken in the first few days though. I would ring 111 and see what advice they give as not sure how things work these days. I had covid last year and although I felt awful, I did manage without going into hospital even though I have severe COPD. Loads of luck x
Contact 111 You may be able to get antivirals, but be quick, they need to be started within 5 days of getting covid. Good luck.
Hi Topgunele ring 111 if you start to feel more unwell . Come Monday notify your GP and you may have to forgo your injection at this time for flu etc. As I recall my last Covid infection made me quite drained and the only thing for it is to take it easy take some paracetamol and try to keep warm. Obviously as you have been run down this year you need to be more careful, drink plent y of fluids to chase the germs out, they also tend to lower a temperature if you have one. Do not worry about ringing 111 if you need to that's what they are there for.
