Although hypertonic saline (3, 5,7%) is popular and works well for copd patients it is not always so useful in bronchiectasis as it is too severe. Isotonic saline 0.09% is the only saline that I am comfortable with.
I do well with 7% hypertonic saline, for bronchiectasis. Ru using salbutamol before it Lapis5 x
how many minutes do u use it for and what time of day?
I've been doing 6% saline for going on two years twice a day.... it did make me cough loads of mucus up at first but it got better over time
I don't have COPD but since I moved to a Ground floor flat and surrounded by lawns and trees my sinuses started getting irritated more, then developed hay fever symptoms, 2 weeks later a really nasty chesty cough! But I hardly coughed up any phlegm! But I started with inhaling hot steam and slowly it has loosened persistent cough, but especially early morning and evening before bed and it also woke me up in the middle of the night coughing and spluttering! Never ever experienced this as bad for a very long time! But on and off I cough up a little bit of phlegm, which I believe is a good sign that the lungs are clearing slowly!
But I really hope Lapis you find the saline which works well for you soon! Everyone is different and at different stages with COPD! Can't put all the peas in one pot! Go back to your GP if this 7% is too troublesome for you!
And discuss a better option! Good luck Lapis 👍🥰
I am always given Saline Isotonic 0.9% which I find suitable
I was unable to tolerate hypersonic saline, I just nebulise normal saline up to four times a day. This works well for me, no coughing, wheezing or gagging. xx
