With the caveat I’m not medically qualified: salbutamol first, wait about 5 to 10 minutes for maximal effect from that, then do the saline. The reason to do it that way is that the saline will penetrate deeper with more open airways, providing the most effective clearance.

hi whit. Charlie said it all.

hello whit,

Yes, I have experience with a nebulizer, but of course I am not a doctor! good news a nebuliser is really helpful, much more so than the regular inhalers, bad news it takes time.

My pulmonologist told me to mix them all at the same time in the nebulizer container, saline solution plus salbutamol plus budesonide .

(Whereas with the regular inhalers she told me to do the salbutamol first, wait aa few minutes and then the rest.)

And then make sure you have something to read for the next half hour ir so. then On bad days I do this 4 times a day

Good luck!

I go with the general consensus here. I open the airways first with a neb in the same class as salbutomol, but not strictly. Once in awhile I just use the saline.

Also would be helpful for you to know what prompted the specialist to add the saline. Such as, was there a specific new complaint or a new finding or a lack of improvement?

my husband was told by the pulmonary physio to take the salbutamol then saline half hour later as others have said but with the added info that the saline shocks the the lungs into a cough or spasm that clears the mucus , the salbutamol having had time to opened up the airways as much as possible . I see that cookie monster was told to mix the two , my husband pointed out that they had done that during his hospital stay whereupon both the physio and respiratory nurse rolled their eyes saying that doing that is a complete waste of time and done in hospitals merely to save time ☹️🤷🏻‍♀️
