Hello there, I am Sunshine, 22 years old and this is my first post on the forum. I have had asthma in my genes and from childhood. But recently with recurrent respiratory infections and occasional blood in sputum brought me to the doctor. He ordered me an Xray which showed Bronchiectasis. To confirm further he ordered a CT scan, it showed bronchiectasis in the mid and lower region.
Sputum culture showed H. Influenzae,
AF mold is negative
MTb is also negative
I’ve been taking Seretide 25/250, Tiotropium revolizer, Montelukast, Beclomethasone nasal spray, Azithromycin on an alternate days, Moxifloxacin has been completed for the exacerbation, Prednisone is continued
I just wanted to introduce myself to the folks here. The plus point is my doctor has himself told me about this forum. I hope with every dips and dires we stay strong and healthy. Amen

Hi there. Welcome to the group. We’re generally a very friendly group. After coughing for 3 months and my dr trying inhalers and montelukast I was referred to an asthma specialist. I had an x-ray and a ct scan and was diagnosed with bronchiecstasis as well asthma. I’m now on Ciclosonide, Flutcasone, Incruse Elliot’s, and Ventolin (all inhalers) Montelucast, Fexofenadine, Azithromycin and Predinisolone. I also have Rheumatoid Arthritis so this limits my mobility, but I manage my breathing issues well. I managed to continue to work as a primary teacher until I was 59, when I decided that there was more to life than work.
Hi, a warm welcome from me too! Lots of people here with asthma and bronchiectasis for sharing worries, experiences, tips, knowledge and the importanceof daily clearance to avoid congestion and infections. I'm wondering what they're doing about the H.Influenzae, is that the moxifloxacin? I believe many take prophylactic Azithromycin too.
I had H. Influenzae in my culture two months ago, it came sensitive to azithromycin. I have had almost 3 courses of Azithromycin with Cefixime but all in vain. It reoccured. I have a feeling that moxifloxacin worked. Let’s hope for the better.
Fingers crossed. HI is a particularly nasty bug that can colonise people with bronchiectasis, I'm not sure that it ever completely goes away and can lurk waiting for your resistance is low hence the need for really really good clearance to get rid of the warm wet environment for the blighter to multiply . I do hope its now at it's lowest for you and tge prophylactic Azith will keep them low.
Have a look at the N.I.C.E Guidelines for bronch to ensure you get the treatment you should have - it does look as they're on your case. Our resident experts on bronch will tell you you need a bronchiectasis specialist (not a mere respiratory consultant) going forward. All the best, P
I have COPD, Astha and heart problems, I would be more mobile only for OA and Neuropathy. My inhalers are Atrovent. Salmanol and Fostair, with a GTN spray. Pain relief Gabapentin, Paracetamoland Morphine.
For my I keep going , and enjoy the garden and art.
I have asthma and heart disease, recently In may I had an asthma attack I was on tiotropium, symbicort and salbutamol. My asthma has been the worst it's ever been! I was supposed to book an urgent asthma review but I caught a chest infection which majorly affected my asthma aswell. Sorry to hear what you have been through 😔. That's alot to go through hope your feeling better ❤️ x
Hi and welcome. I have had Bronchiectasis for a few years now and take Azithromycin as a prophylactic 3 times weekly and carbocisteine daily . I also have ulcerative colitis which entails taking medication to suppress my immune system, which caused me to catch numerous back-to-back chest infections. However, this cycle has been broken now that I take azithromycin long term and my life has returned to near normal. I also feel that lung clearance and getting out for a walk in the fresh air has helped me enormously both physically and mentally.

Hi and welcome. I too have had asthma since childhood which turned into brittle asthma as an adult, now bronchiastasis and other things going on. You learn to live with your condition and know the signs when something isn’t right so nothing really changes getting older apart from maybe better medication and management of it, I’m 61 now, lots of infections, pneumonia sepsis too but I’m still here and my breathing is fine when I don’t exert myself or have an infection but I do have other issues going on in the lungs.
Well at such a young age you are certainly a ray of sunshine on this forum. I'm 77 and was diagnosed with Bronchiectasis in 2011, possibly because of Whooping Cough when a child. What is so important in managing the condition is to daily follow the "huffing technique" (which you can Google or view on YouTube) for getting rid of mucous in the lungs. Getting rid of mucous reduces the risk of bacterial infection. I'm a hospital volunteer playing music in hospitals to elderly and dementia patients. Occasionally I write accounts of my visits. I think I'll do one for my visit yesterday! We look forward to your posts and contributions. It's people like you that will be a mainstay of this forum in the future.

Hi sunshine, unfortunately I can't help you with asthma or bronchiectasis, but I'm sure many can. I have idiopathic pulmonary haemorrhage, came on suddenly in Nov 2022 when I was 47. This site is full of such lovely people 😊
From one sunshine to another, welcome to this friendly and helpful forum. My hubby has had asthma since birthday and bronchiectasis since his very early years. He also has aspergillosis, interstitial pneumonitis and his lungs are colonized with Haemophilus Influenzae. His meds are ventolin, seretide, bricanyl, uniphyllin and prednisolone which he also needs for his Rheumatoid arthritis. He has a rescue pack of Doxycycline to hand which he uses when Haemophilus flares which was originally prescribed by his lung consultant who said to do a sputum sample first and start the Doxy straight away, but take the sample to Path Lab asap and keep in fridge if over the weekend. Cliff has a nebuliser at home and a supply of salbutamol and saline nebules. He is on various other tablets for his RA, Rheumatoid Vasculitis, peripheral neuropathy, hypothyroidism, Barretts Oesophagus, heart failure and a few others. It seems once you have one autoimmune disease you gain a few others. Cliff is now 79, his mum was told he wouldn't live beyond 5 but thank goodness they got that wrong. His motto is never give in and never give up. You're young and I'm sure the future will bring lots more research and more effective care of all lung diseases. As others have said it's really important to keep clearing your lungs of the gunge lurking down there. Take care, Joy xx

Well done to your doctor for recommending this site, it has been immensely helpful to me as my doctor told me nothing about COPD. In fact when I mentioned this site, he visibly paled and said "You will probably know more than me"!! I do! 😂

Hi and welcome sunshine. It was discovered I have asthma and bronchiectasis after a CT scan when I was in my early 50s. Nothing has really deteriorated since and I’m in my 70 s. It appears I acquired them when I was five after a bout of whooping cough and measles together. Xx
Welcome to the group! Hope you find something useful. I had late onset asthma which developed in to bronchiectasis. Fortunately I can survive on Fostair and Incruse plus various supplements such as Vit D and C . Good luck with treatment, hope everything stabilises .
