Hi everyone the clocks counting down , Radiotherapy starts next Tuesday. I have a problem already they don't give you the timetable of appointments till you go so if I have to go back on Thursday not enough warning (i.e 48hrs notice required for transport) Even the cancer centre requires 48 hrs notice for voluntary transport. My appointment is 12 noon on Tuesday. Another anxiety/stresser most people even family need a fewdays notice especially if working or when children are off school. At this time of year staff are on Holiday too. So fingers crossed no ill effects and maybe next session will not be till the week after. If not then they will have to rearrange the dates as I have another eye appointment in august for further surgery. Enjoy your weekend everyone I am making the most of it so far.
Next weeks medical treats: Hi everyone... - Lung Conditions C...
Next weeks medical treats
I hope that it all goes well katie. I will be thinking about you.
I hope it goes well Katie and that you get enough warning for your transport. As if the radiotherapy isn'y worry enough!
All the best xx
You really don't need any added stress Katie, please tell them just how difficult this is for you. I hope all goes well for you on Tuesday and will be thinking of you x
That's it if you don't tell them directly that there's problems and they don't know then they can't do anything for you!
Best of luck with your treatment!
I have really enjoyed the Tafwyl festival today at Bute Park in Cardiff!
Glad to hear you had a good day my sister used to live in Cardiff many moons ago when she first got married. enjoy your day its sunny here.
It was hilarious yesterday when we were sat in one of the tents listening to a talk in Welsh and my mates extremely spoilt beagle Poppy started to bark and whine and my mate had to take Poppy out of the tent like you do with a small child who's screaming because they are bored!
With small children they don't know any better when they whine at performances and it's up to the parents to take them outside when that happens!
Many years ago my Aunty Pat had to take her 18 year old daughter home from Nanas after she had told both Nana and Grandpa to f ing shut up after they had defended aunty pat after her daughter had shouted at her and used foul language after Aunty Pat wouldn't give her her own way over a dress!
Aunty Pat had had enough, put her daughter in the car, dumped her at home and then drove back to Nanas!
Thing is when you are 18 you should know better!
Hoping everything at least goes well - Last thing you need is worry.
I think that radio therapy is normally 5 consecutive days each week. Ideally, therefore, you should plan for someone to transport you on Wednesday. However, if you can't manage a day, they will probably just add it on at the end. When I had mine, I was told that they are required to schedule for times you can manage.
I am only supposed to have it for three days on alternative days but don't tell you which days till the first attendance day. , they are suppposed to schedule for times to suit you where ever possible. I have a consultants appointment on the Wednesday. Some people go once a week but for longer times a freind has just finished 20 weeks. I need time to arrange transport as I do not drive and cannot use public transport at present. But thanks for your reply.
Please try not to worry too much about this Katieoxo60. They won't expect you to attend if you cannot get there. It sounds as if you may have to miss a day if the schedule does not suit for transport reasons. Presumably it is too far away for you to use a cab. While you naturally will want to get on with your treatment, you can still only do what is humanly and reasonably possible.
Hope all goes smoothly for you Katie xx
Hi Katie. I am thinking of you and hope things go smoothly for you. Much love. xx ❤️
I hope it all goes well in Tuesday Katie. Please let them know you struggle with transport. My friend had radiotherapy every morning mon- Fri for 6 weeks in a hospital an hours drive away. The hospital provided a private taxi to pick him up and drop him back home. So much easier and stress free.
I'll certainly be thinking of you Katie and hoping all goes well for you - including the transport 💐💐💐💐💐💐
Best wishes, Katie. Will be thinking of you on Tuesday and on subsequent. days. I hope they can sort out the transport- current arrangements do not seem very logical. After all they want their patients there at the times which will make the treatment most effective. Hope all goes well. xxxx Chris
I’ll b thinking of you on Tuesday Katie, do tell the hospital about your difficulty with transport, as monster moo said the hospital may provide transportation, if one hospital can do so, perhaps they all can in time of need.
Best wishes BERNARDINE 🌹🌹🌹
It won't hurt to ask at the hospital about transport will it as if they don't know there's problems they can't do anything for you!
I find if I don't ask for things I don't get!
How are you getting on?
We are great here and enjoyed a Welsh culture festival yesterday in the city centre and made our own packed lunches as the food places at festivals like to rip people off!
Hi Katie.
Pleased that you are starting treating very soon.
Can you explain the issue over appointments and the transport to them ? They may be able to adjust things in the future for you.
Wishing you well Katie xx
Thank you , however since going for cancer tests etc I have had two problem times with patient transport, plus one week my sister had to come a two hour journey to attend consultants appointment for treatment discussion.I try to attend when asked so not to disrupt their schedule but it seems their schedule is aimed at staff convenience , not patient need. Agree they can't suit every one even patient transport prefers morning appointments for patients nothing after 12noon at clinics especially radio therapy and pet scans. But never mind I will contact them on Monday may still be time for them to arrange voluntary transport instead. Fingers crossed
When I first started at the pharmacy I was working in the renal pharmacy upstairs and the patient transport chap brought in a diabetic patient really early who hadn't had any lunch and we sorted him out for a lunch so he didn't have to do without and I advised him next time he came to the clinic to bring sandwiches with him and said I take my own sandwiches to places that like to rip people off with their prices and everyone laughed!
I understand how difficult all this must be, although I think it is worth asking them how they might be able to schedule to help you Katie. Sometimes they are not always aware of our needs.
Do you have a community voluntary transport scheme in your area ? Worth looking at ? Have you asked social prescribing if they know of anything ?
Go well Katie.
Pauline
I never thought of social prescribing as an option , another avenue to try. I have always been able to have patient transport services on mobility grounds its just they all need at least 48 hours notice . And some are choosing which services they will take you to just lately. And I do not have a radiology timetable for other days till I go on Tuesday.
Hope they sort your transport out and all goes well on Tuesday x
Hi katie, don't know why they don't take into account you have to use hospital transport. Wonder if you explain the problem to the transport people they might be able to make allowances for your situation? xxx
Wishing you all the best. Will be thinking of you on Tuesday. Hope they can work around the transport situation 🤞
I hope it all goes well for you. Sometimes hospital forget they’re supposed to be there for the patients!
Hope everything goes well for you Katie, All the best , I will be thinking of you Tuesday 🩷
I hope everything goes well and I hope everything is OK with transport
Hope everything goes well Katie. It must be a pain in the backside waiting around for hospital transport. Sometimes you are there hours before your appointment and then you Sometimes have to wait for the transport to take you home. When you might not be feeling your best after. If you have had treatment. Brian
You are right I have to be ready 90 minutes before , they play a football match in that time . Then it can be any amount of time once they are informed you are ready to go home even 3 hours is not unheard of at our large hospital. But I am afraid for some of us there is no choice, it is the safest way for us to travel alone when you also live alone. I also have a family crisis at the moment not good for the blood pressure. So I will be out of action for the next two weeks due to treatment so I hope it does help.
