No, but your need to find out as soon as possible, as BERNARDINE suggested, as soon as possible, good advice.

I to have coughed up blood and was told part of the disease. It sounds like old blood ,vigorous coughing can cause small capillaries to burst .At least you were able to remove the old clots x

bleeding in the lungs can have several causes, lot of coughing, infection, etc. the advice that I have been given is pink sputum the odd clot, make an appointment to see your GP, fresh blood less than an egg cup full call 111 for advice, more than an egg cup call 999.

Hello @Lapis5,

I have had a similar experience to you and (I hope) a long term solution. Coughing up blood is a very scarey and unsettling thing to have, so I very much sympathise. My treatment was given by our local/regional NHS hospitals here in England but I hope this might be useful to you in the US.

I have emphysema. I began coughing up sizeable dark blobs of blood in sputum in August 23 and then, when coughing violently, sprays of bright red fresh blood.

A rapid series of hospital tests followed involving scans and a bronchoscopy and other investigations. The result showed the doctors that I had had a past infection (like your mold) which had resulted in abnormalities in the some of the blood supply inside the lungs. They believe this was the site of the bleeding, caused by damage left behind after my body had fought the infection.

I was sent to a major treatment centre where a large medical team and 2 ”interventional radiologist” surgeons performed a Bronchial Embolisation. They fed a probe into my femoral artery and steered it inside my arterial system up and into the lung itself, precisely guided by constant imaging. It was a space age operation involving a lot of staff over about 90 minutes who were able to seal off the bleeding arteries from the inside so that they no longer bled into the lung space. I needed to be fully awake and able to respond to the surgeons’ instructions (like “Stop breathing”) when needed. It wasn’t exactly comfortable, but it wasn’t painful - they make sure of that. Recovery took the rest of the day and I left the hospital at the end of it. The process had been successful (thank you, NHS!)

I hope this might be helpful and reassuring to you where you are.

Hi Lapsis5.I have Asthma severe COPD and Bronchiectasis.

I think you would be wise to discuss this with your doctor...

I was in hospital over Xmas (4 weeks) with Covid and RSV. Also psudomonus flare up. Lungs felt raw...

On getting home found I produced small dark clots of blood every couple of days. On checking with hospital was advised wasn't surprising after such a lengthy lung event...

It gradually cleared and I went on to recovery except that another chest flare up occurred in March - before this I'd been infection free for 12 months.

Guess it's difficult to avoid flare ups every now and again.

But I try to stay as lung 'fit' as possible in-between.

Pulmonary rehab etc...

Good luck with chatting to your doctor - better the sooner to put your mind at rest... J.
