I am interested to know who to contact to arrange oxygen in France as this is something my son needs when we visit in April. Can anyone help with this?

Hi,

I assume your son uses oxygen in the UK? How does he use it here because that will make a difference in how he travels out of UK.

I have travelled with 02 in the past so perhaps I can help ?

Go well,

Hi PaulineHM,

Sorry to hijack this post but I have recently started on long term oxygen therapy and am hoping g to travel abroad. I wondered if you could advise me about how you go about arranging oxygen? I have tried getting quotes but they were extortionate!

I use a concentrator for night and have a portable concentrator and cylinders for walking about.

I read that the GHIC actually covers oxygen therapy but I am struggling to find how to arrange this before travel. (I tried to contact British Lung Foundation, NHS, Irish Health Executive when I was trying to travel to Dublin) nobody can give any advice.

Anything you can tell me would be great.

Thanks

Hello, Good to hear from you. I travelled a lot when I was using a portable concentrator, even long haul to the USA. Bought my own to do that. I managed that by getting a hypoxic challenge test done. Some local Health services are offering it still and some are not so it has to be done privately. That will let you know what prescription you need to fly ( if that is what you are thinking of ). Although it isn't possible to fly with liquid oxygen, I have travelled with a portable concentrator on ferries to Spain many times as well.

Since my prescription increased ( still ambulatory only ) to a static concentrator and liquid oxygen from a big tank into a flask then I have looked at travelling- tried it last year from England in to Wales but Wales would only give me a concentrator for the hotel room and and bottles to take out- very limiting. How I hate those bottles.

Have looked long and hard at travelling to Spain, driving or train, but really and honestly have given up. It is just too difficult to travel alone and it is so disappointing. I haven't even looked into the cost of travelling out of UK. As you say am pretty sure the cost would be prohibitive.

There was someone here from Scotland who managed to get from there to Ireland and she told me that it wasn't as difficult as she thought it might be. From memory she went to Vivisol and they arranged it all. she said they were very helpful. So they might be worth a try ? vivisol.co.uk/services/pati...

Feel free to let me know how you get on. Happy for you to DM me.

Go well.

Pauline
