I’ve won battle with pseudomonas

I’ve just defeated pseudomonas with oral antibiotics! It s left me feeling bit tired, but thankful not having to have I.v. Injections 5 times daily at home or go into hospital. I’m celebrating quietly. Took total of 57 750mg Ciprofloxacin, only stopped when sputum result showed pseudomonas had gone. Best regards, Jean x

That's great. Pseudomonas seems a particularly difficult bug to shift, so you've done really well.

Hi Jean, well done for shifting the bug. Did your doc say anything about the Ciprofloxacin causing leg pains or gut problems or anything? Just being cautious but you might want to take some probiotics (to help repopulate your gut with good bacteria) and some antioxidants (like vitamins A, C and E). The Cipro (like any antibiotic) can play havoc with your gut and also cause oxidative stress (which can make you feel tired for sure). Take care.

Hi, because I was born with rare condition PCD, I now have a special consultant and don’t have to rely solely on GP, except for dealing with sputum sample etc. I’m booked for telecon with my consultant on 2 February, will ask about adverse issues arising from Ciprofloxacin. Best regards, Jean.

Consultant will probably say not to worry if you feel OK. My thoughts were simply that ALL antibiotics affect your gut which is, after all relying on trillions of friendly bacteria to process your food (and an antibiotic can't tell the difference!).

I have just gotten rid of pseudomonas it has taken 14 months I started with IV antibiotics at home with the acute care nurses team, and two weeks of Tazocin didn't work. Then I was prescribed ciprofloxacin 750mg 3 times per day, whilst also changing my nebulised antibiotic from Gentamicin to Colomycin. I have also now cultured quite a rare Mycobacterial Chelonae. I have a CT scan that showed mosaic attenuation (light and dark patches of lung) wandered if anyone else has had this. so glad you are recovering it is exhausting, like you, I am very fatigued.
