Within the last five minutes I have had a phone call supposedly from the British Lung Foundation regarding my loft insulation. Apparently they are in this area - South Lakes-checking that the current insulation is suitable and safe for those with lung problems and offering me an inspection. Genuine or sales pitch?

Cold calling.
personally I would be very sceptical. Why don’t you contact Claire from ALUK to ask if such a campaign is happening. Also unless you are accessing insulation on a regular basis eg actually fitting it then I don’t see why loft insulation would bother anyone…..
I'm sure it's a scam Tykelady. The BLF doesn't exist any more - we merged with Asthma UK quite a while ago.
I would call it a scam as have had calls like that before but not purporting to be from BLF. They’re not called that now but Asthma+Lung so maybe the scammers don’t know that. By all means check though of course. Xxxx
ditto in Southport. They put the phone down on me when I told them I do not have a loft!
A scam for sure. My neighbour had a similar call, she's intelligent and reasonably savvy at 84.
Because they 'were in the area and most appointments gone within a few moments she'd parted with £650 as a deposit and her debit card details for spray foam lift insulation - known to prevent house sales, you can't get a mortgage on a home with that loft insulation. Luckily neighbour the light & quickly cancelled her card then all the rigmarole of changing all passwords to be on the safe side.
Hi, all it a scam, sore a notice on facebooks Silversurfers group, here is the link to the Asthma and lung uk blog page,
First I have ever heard that. If you don't go in your loft your insulation wouldn't affect you anyway unless you stand there while they are doing it. Just paid to have mind done, any insulation is dangerous for your breathing and that's why they wear masks 😷 I would take it with a pinch of salt or phone British lung foundation and ask them. 😉
Hi Tykelady

Grrr! What ratbags.
Definite scam. Appalling that they can try this on.
It is definitely an orchestrated cold calling. I allowed one of their staff to visit, wondering how they selected their targets. He was quite personable and gave quite a lot of waffle but without giving an answer. He then started his sales pitch by explaining the virtues of insulation and switched conversation when I told him that in my pre-retirement days I worked at the National Physical Laboratory, with some years in the Thermal Standards Group! He then switched to what type of insulation was used, claiming that some produced minute particles which could damage the lungs. Our insulation doesn't and anyway would only produce them if disturbed and would show on our air purifier readout for PM 2.5 particles.
At which point he wished us well and departed on his 45 minute journey home. We did, however, receive another nuisance call this morning from somebody else but on the same subject!!! Various companies seem to have bought personal information from somewhere, the level of detail that they have is unknown but the guy who visited us never mentioned my bad lungs and I didn't mention that to him. Perhaps it is just age-related.
