I need advice / recommendation for a pressure relief cushion.
The combination of my Interstital lung disease worsening, weight loss, and a current flare of my Rheumatoid Athritis means that I am more sedentary than ever before.
This means that my bottom is getting sore. I’ve searched online, prices appear to vary dramatically.
Can any body help with recommendations.
Thanks for reading this.
I’ve had a strange day,
I-had 2 phone appointments this week,I got an email this morning, apologing, because strike action means that Thursdays appointment
Is cancelled.apparently I’m now on an urgent cancellation list.
whilst eating breakfast,I gave myself a talking to-like what are you fretting for.
My treatment plan for my conditions is in place,my GP surgery is really helpful, even though I’m out of their area of expertise, they are very helpful.
All through Covid and lockdown I had 3 monthly appointments.6 monthly lung function tests and various blood tests .
I have access to a palliative care consultant, who is very supportive.
Also ,the invaluable interstitial nurse helpline.
So,I decided that it’s not too bad after all. I’m m counting my blessings.
Hopefully everyone is doing ok.

If you have a pressure sore and nothing is working, best to visit GP - Last think you want on top of your problems is an infected pressure sore - You GP may prescribe you with a cream something like "Medi Derma-S barrier cream" Whatever don't let a pressure sore get bad, they can if not looked after be very nasty ,
I would contact your GP and they should be able to put you in touch with a home /community team I would have thought to come and asess your chair/sofa and order one that is suitable for you and your furniture. We used to order everything for Mum privately but often got something that was not as suitable as it should have been. Someone came out after a fall and raised her chair legs and put some grab rails etc.. I am sure they cover cushions too as again there are different types? Hope you get sorted and yes keep your skin protected too and if able stand up a while or make a cuppa so your bottom gers a rest!
I get very sore bottom due to lack of muscle from numerous hip surgery going wrong from metal on metal original hip replacement. I can’t sit on a hard chair at all, I’ve been like this for years. Ive recently got a repose cushion, they are expensive but are marvellous, I don’t have any problems now , only if I’m away from home and have to sit for any length of time on a hard surface.
Thank you 2013mayo that's really helpful I'll shall look that up. And thanks you Oshgosh for asking the question as I'm having the same problem, my coccyx really hurts too plus. I also had bilateral mastectomies and my latissimus dosing removed, so leaning back in chairs hurts.
When I had pressure sores in hospital I was give a constant pressure inflatable mattress and once back at home I was provided with an inflatable mattress for my bed and an inflatable cushion for a chair. The other cushion I used was a honeycomb designed made from a rubbery plastic.
My nurse got me a cushion. She came to see me as I'd requested a visit from an ot but really she was very good. She works under the ot and filters the visits for the ot. I got a bath board so I can shower, a toilet seat that fits on the top of the one there. And a inflated cushion for when I go in the car, scooter, etc. I'm also getting a visit from the ot nurse next week.Hope you get what you need
You need to get an assessment from the pressure relief nurse who should be able to provide the correct equipment. Failing that, ask your GP for an OT assessment (occupational therapist) for seating and pressure aids.
Morning, I cannot suggest a cushion for protection although I'm wondering if the RA forum might have some suggestions. If I needed one I'd also rather buy one rather than the pressure building up whilst waiting for an OT or nurse visit. Good luck, I hope you get a suggestion soon. P
I had a pressure sore, and I went to my GP. I was referred to the district nurses and prescribed Derma S cream, which is a barrier cream. Also, had delivered a EHOB pre-inflated cushion, which is brilliant. These do gradually deflate, so every few months I have to call a company to get it replaced. They do deliver to your door. I now no longer have a pressure sore. Just a little embarrassing baring your backside to lady strangers.
