I’m under the Brompton for eosinophilic asthma- at my 6 monthly appt last Monday my bloods showed an increase in eosinophils from 0.2 to 0.9 as a consequence my consultant has given me a 7 day course of steroids at 40 mg a day. I’ve lost one of the strips of pills which means I only have 5 days supply now. I’m on holiday so can’t get more from my gp etc- I’m due a follow up at the Brompton when I get back week after next- Do you think it will be ok just to take the 5 day amount? Also I’m not enjoying the side affects- insomnia and increased anxiety and sadness- very tearful.
Thanks

Hi Scottie, is there any way to get an added strip of pills from your MD by explaining what happened? You wouldn't want to jeopardize your health in any case if you'd be allowed more pills. If you're supposed to start these right away I would most likely start taking them and then attempt to get two more. If you can't get the last two pills then I guess you'll just have to make due. I was going to write about potentially making a schedule like 1 1 1 0 1 1 0 so that way you could potentially spread it out through the entire week, but I don't know if that would be detrimental to what the program would do. I would really recommend getting your consultant to give you two more pills somehow. Sorry for what you're going through Scottie.
Good Morning. I hope you've revolved your problem. My GP will fax a prescription to a local pharmacy, in exceptional circumstances . Obviously as you say your Asmha Nurse hopefully will help.
That’s good to know as well- I’ve struck lucky as I’m now staying with my mum who has a lung disorder and has some spares in her cupboard as she can’t take them due to being on warfarin - it makes her bleed too easily.
If you go to a pharmacy where you are and show your box explaining what happened they will give you some meds or the name of the emergency doctor so you can get some.
I wouldn’t alter the prescription.
Take your prednisolone with food early in the morning, no later than 8 am. Anyway the symptoms wear off with time.
Good luck!

Plus 40mg is a standard dosage in your case..I have been on 60mg before..my asthma action plan says 40mg as well..
So don’t worry you are lucky to go to RBH, it is an excellent hospital.
Yes I am lucky to be under the Brompton and fortunately I only live a 45 minute tube stop away. They look after me well and have done for the last two years.
I feel so silly losing all those pills!
I’ll ring my asthma nurse on Monday and see what she has to say.
ive just done a tapering dose from 100 mg to 10 you are going to want those steroids by the end of 5 days see if there is a drop in near you and ask doc there
Hi they are white blood cells that fight inflammation etc in the body- when mine go above normal levels it usually means something funny is going on in my lungs. They are usually the first sign that anything is up.
Maybe ring consultants secretary explain what's happened get name and address of local boots etc and they could maybe email prescription to them. Have you still got box at least it's proof you are on this medication at chemist if consultant does arrange this but I would ring first thing before his surgery gets started or your own doctors if you know your doctor well maybe he could arrange prescription to chemist as a one off
