Hi everyone,

Hope you're all well, can anyone give me some information about liquid oxygen and how you cope with the fact the portable canisters only last for 2 hours.

I am not sure what rate you use but I was under the impression they lasted much longer than this?

Thanks for replying, I now need at least 6 litres 24/7 that's why my oxygen physiotherapist recommended the liquid oxygen apparently the one I'm using at the moment only goes up to 5 litres (that's the portable cylinders)

Sorry limbobo, my friend only uses 3 lpm (on demand) and that is why I thought thay lasted much longer. I hope you find a way to improve the times.

You could ask for a Companion 1000 T. This is a high flow unit (goes up to 15 which I need). In addition I have got 3 of them, so I get 3 hours portable oxygen. If I want that for being out and about then I put my back up cylinders in the car for travel time. Also have a portable concentrator but don't do well on pulsed. Does any of that make sense?

I am on ambulatory oxygen, only needing it when I go out of the house. I am on 6ipm and with a conserver my cylinder lasts for 3 hours. I did try liquid oxygen for a while but seeing as the physio would only prescribe 2 canisters (and no back up cylinder) I felt as if I was tied to the house due to the need to refill the canisters. No day trips for me. When I was on liquid oxygen I was on 8lpm continuous and the canister lasted 2 hours. One thing I will say for liquid oxygen is that it is lighter to carry. The best way to know if liquid oxygen is for you is to give it a try. Good Luck.

Could you please tell me the name of the kit you're using, do you think?

I'm on 24 hour 4 litres per minute oxygen; at home, from an Airsep Newlife Elite mains concentrator which goues up to 5 lpm; on the move I have a Helios Marathon portable liquid oxygen cylinder (constant or intermittent flow) which is fillled from a big stationary Helios 36 liquid oxygen cylinder which lives in the shed.

The portable lasts about 2 to 2 1/2 hours on 4lpm constant and I have just managed to be prescribed a second one so I can be out longer. I can stretch that if I switch the oxygen off when I'm sitting still - I can get away with that for several hours.

Hi

In the UK the liquid oxygen equipment used varies from supplier to supplier.

Dolby Vivisol use the Helios Plus/Helios Marathon - the Marathon goes up to 6 lpm and lasts for 2 hrs on continuous flow.

Air Liquide use the Claire/Chart and the Companion - the Companion goes up to 15 lpm and lasts for just over an hour.

Air Products also use the Marathon, Companion and Spirit.

BOC - I'm not sure what they use.

Speak to your resp nurse etc (whoever prescribed your oxygen) to discuss the different options - if s/he is unsure, each of the Oxygen Companies have a Clinical adviser who can provide information - and also in every region there will be Oxygen Lead who can also offer advice to anyone prescribing oxygen about the best equipment available.

Hi

i would just like to add we had one of the suppliers come an see us with all the different types of oxygen equipment availible and liquid oxygen does seem to be the best option for people who spend a lot of time away from their main supply, it lasts much longer than portable cylinders and it is lighter to carry, so please speak to your prescriber if you are intrested in being assessed for liquid oxygen.
