Late april this year I contracted Covid again (previous time was just before the first lockdown). I slept for 4 days feeling cold and exhausted with lack of appetite I lost a stone in weight in 4 weeks. It did not seem to effect my chest so much this time (I have emphysema) but here I am 6 weeks later getting out of breath more than normal.
However I called the docs last thursday to explain the above and was given an appointment to see the him later that day. He said my chest was clear but to go for a chest x-ray just to be on the safe side. Monday afternoon I received a phone call asking me to attent a local hospital for the x-ray.
This is where it gets interesting, I had the x-ray taken on time and within 10 mins I was informed that something was found on the x-ray. I was told to ring my doctors to let him know and also given an appointment for another x-ray in 6 weeks time to check my lungs have cleared. If they have not cleared then the hospital will be doing further tests/x-rays.
I called the docs to inform them what I had been told, within an hour the doc telephoned me and prescribed antibiotics which he telephoned through to my local chemist so I could pick them up within the hour.
Here in South Wales the NHS seem to be doing a brilliant job from my experiences, I am so impressed with the service so far. I reckon I am one lucky lady.!

I am glad you got what seemed to be excellent service. I cant complain about the service I have received from my Gp surgery and local hospitals. ( based in Scotland) Just changed chemist because they left a lot to be desired. I can understand that others on the forum have not had such good service which is sad.
I hope your antibiotics work and you are on the road to recovery
Thanks teddyd, I just felt that with all the bad press on the NHS I had to give praise when due. I am also under another hospital for glaucoma and they have been super effiecient too. Fingers crossed I just have an infection and nothing more sinister.
I live in South Wales also, and have a great support team . Both my Respiratory team and COPD team I can contact daily if I have, any concerns also the nurse at my Surgery is a great support .Hope you feel better soon .xxSheila 💕⚘
My daughter lives in Wales and they seem to offer a far superior service than here in Manchester, they never have a problem getting an appointment or being seen to in hospital. Maybe the difference is here in a big city like Manchester they have a bigger population to deal with. I am glad you had good care and get better soon x
I’m very pleased for you that you’ve got medication. and attention necessary. At the moment I’m waiting for delivery by my excellent local pharmacy of medication that I ordered on line on Monday. The script is usually sent electronically by my GP to my pharmacy but when my pharmacy said yesterday still not had it, I had to make long telephone call to practice and finally they sent prescription to my pharmacy. Best wishes, Jean x
Sounds like a similar system here but I just ring up pharmacy and they do the rest. Mind you there have been occasions when I havee had to ring docs to sort something or the other. The latest is to replace my ventolin with a CFC free type and apparently I will be getting my medication every two months. Hmmmmmm we will see how that works! x
