I have had fibromyalgia for about 17 years but only diagnosed 2 years ago, I believe the difficult birth of my eldest son was the trigger. Living with pain for so long and the doctors not really giving me much to go on with I ignored my body for a long time simply putting it down to fibro. My coughing in the night became so bad I went to the doctors and was sent for an x-ray, to be told have consolidation of the right lung, something that is apparently seen in patients with pneumonia. I was given 2 different antibiotics to take together for one week and I have to go for an x-ray in 4 weeks from original appointment.
Knowing now that the lung pain is not fibro, I am quite sure that the consolidation has not cleared up... what next if it hasn't?
I believe my fibromyalgia masked my (now obvious) symptoms of COPD. It wasn't just me that put my symptoms down to fibro, but many of my doctors too. Though it's not great getting a diagnosis of another chronic illness, what it's meant for me is that I'm now getting appropriate treatment and this has helped me all round. The extreme tiredness in particular is now not a constant but only flares every so often. Good luck and don't worry too much lung problems can be managed if you stick with the advice.
