I was born with PCD, have bronchiectasis. Few days ago I asked on here about increasing dose of Carbocisteine to 6 per day because of increase in mucus and resultant coughing. Spoke to consultants secretary yesterday who spoke to Dr Sullivan. Had phone call could increase to 6 daily. I will report on here if any improvement. Thanks to everyone for your help and comments. Jean x

From a different angle

I had the same problem for ages which also kept me up at night

Someone on this forum few weeks ago suggested stopping my NAC supplement ( couldn’t tolerate carbocysteine) …which I have …..& my chest seems to have settled down…back to only doing chest clearance once a day

May be that the thinners produce too much froth ? So If what the consultant has suggested doesn’t work …May be worth a try????

I am on 6 a day. I believe it’s the maximum dose. I don’t have side effects but do still cough a lot and produce a lot of mucus. I hope it has more impact for you.

Me too Bengali. I noticed a small improvement when consultant increased dose to 6 from 4 daily. It soon returned to normal though.

I am on 6 a day and this together with Azrothramisen three times a week has really helped prevent constant repeat lung infections. Good luck.

I hope the increased dose works for you, it really should. You may also like to try Olbas Oil to inhale on a tissue, DO NOT USE AS STEAM INHALANT as it can take your breath away, but on a tissue, a nice deep inhale is excellent for reducing the coughing, it has an anti-inflammatory effect, I have always used it as my "go to" but I do also use carbocisteine, which is also excellent for reducing the muscus. I hope you have a nice day. :)
