Hi, I just did a Google search, the only thing that came up was Escherichia Coli . Commonly known as E Coli, the highly infectious stomach bacteria.
Hopefully someone will come up with an answer to your question regarding Escherichia in the lungs. As a matter of interest do you have GERD? Lapis5 . P
I’ve had E.coli in my lungs, twice. I can’t remember which strain it was. There are quite a few. People associate it with the gut but it’s a serious bacteria which can grow anywhere. At first I thought it was an “ordinary” chest infection and took first doxycycline and then amoxicillin, but that didn’t help & the sputum became really dark green & I felt very breathless & ill with fever. So on both occasions I ended up in hospital on IV antibiotics, which did get rid of it 😊
SO U KNOW HOW U GOT IT IN YOUR LUNGS? DO U KNOW IF U WERE CONTAGIOUS? I HAVE BEEN CALLING MY LUNG DR FOR 3 DAYS.. HE FINALLYSAID HE IS CALLING IN BACTRIM, ORAL. IF THAT DOES NOOT WORK, THEN IV MEDS IN MY PORT. HOW LONG DID IT TAKE FOR U TO GET WELL? DO U HAVE PSEUDOMONAS ALSO? MY SPUTUM WAS ALMOST DARK BROWN W TINY GREEN THINGS IN IT!!
The thing is, Lapis, if your lungs are compromised by being very damaged, any bacteria can get in them. Pseudomonas, for example, (yes, I have that too 🙄) is more commonly a wound or bladder infection but with us it invades the lungs. I think your doc’s plan is a good one. If the E.coli is sensitive to Bactrim (known as Septrin in the UK) then it’s definitely worth a try. I wasn’t able to take that. Once I was on the right IVs it cleared up within 2-3 weeks. I agree, the sputum colour is particularly disgusting 🤮 You’re not contagious, no, but stay away from others with very damaged lungs
Hello Lapis5. Please, please acknowledge the advice already given. You need to be contacting your doc or consultant as soon as possible to have this treated.
Best wishes and hope all goes well for you. Dawn.xx 😘
