Sore, dry nose on Oxygen

Hi there. I just spoke with my oxygen nurse about my sore, dry nose (after trying 15/24 O2) but she could only recommend using KY Jelly which I have already found rather ineffective. I have seen various mentions on here about creams that have been found helpful but searching isn't bringing them up at the moment. So I am now seeking your recommendations please. And thank you in advance.

My Rheumatologist advised me to try Xlear nasal spray. I have Sjogrens and dryness is difficult, mouth, eyes, nose. I get on with this spray and handy to take out and about. x

No!! Vaseline is flammable, dangerous! The following is from the web:

"NEVER use or store oxygen in a confined space such as a cabinet or closet. DO NOT use petroleum-based ointments or lotions in or around your nose, such as Vaseline, Vicks, Chapstick, etc. Oxygen can react violently with these oily substances and can cause burns."

My large emergency cylinder for emergency incase we have a power cut is stored in my under stairs cupboard. Very small and confined. The engineer from Baywater chose to store it there. Been there years, never used it but it gets changed as has expiry date on it. Xx.Sheila

naseptin cream? On prescription I believe. It will help with soreness and dryness. Take care 🦊x

I use NeilMed Nasogel. It's not on prescription. It's a spray and available from Boots.

NO! Vaseline is highly flammable.

I eventually came across a gel called 'CANN-EASE' and it's been brilliant. You can get it through a charity called Sleep easy,it's aimed at oxygen users.A tube lasts a long time and I highly recommend it

Putting vaseline inside the nostril is not recommended. While petroleum jelly, like Vaseline, can help moisturize a dry nose when applied to the edge of the nostrils, doctors generally advise against putting it inside the nose. Inhaling fat-based substances like petroleum jelly for long periods can cause lung problems, such as aspiration or lipoid pneumonia.

Thank you again to everyone who has replied to my plea. As regards cannulas, I realised that I was given a salter one with my initial ambulatory oxygen and that, for me, these are more comfortable (less uncomfortable!) than any of the other three types I have subsequently been given.

I now have recommendations for easily available products by NeilMed, Ayr, Sterimar, Cann-Ease and Xlear plus the possibility of Naseptin on prescription for an infection. These products are a mixture of sore nose and blocked nose remedies.

I am going to try again with a salter cannula and some NeilMed NasoGel. I do think that 15/24 oxygen will be beneficial for me but the advantages/disadvantages balance has to be right.
