Hiya folks, after a very sleepless nite increased breathlessness which has got worse over the course of the day. Very tight feeling at back of throat.

I wonder whether to start my predisnolone tabs....i have a spirometry booked for 2wks which would have to be postponed 😩

HI,

I looked at your profile and saw that you are recently diagnosed. I understand that it is difficult to know what to do to help oneself at times. I still have that dilemma some days!

Have you got a salbutamol inhaler and is it easing the breathlessness?

On 'bad' days, I often use the salbutamol every 2 to 4 hours until my breathing settles down. My 'yardstick' for starting prednisolone is when the salbutamol has little or no effect and I am still breathless when sitting doing nothing.

I hope that this is of some help to you. Best wishes.

Hi, thanks for your reply, yes i have a salbutomol inhaler which has had no effect. I also have the Ellipta Anoro which i take in the morning.

I have started my steroids, will ring my docs in the morning.

Feeling a little like back at square one.

Haven’t even been able to do anything with my son today so that doesn’t help 😢

Sounds like you made the right decision to start the prednisolone and also that you have an efficient GP. I wasn't given a rescue pack for over 2 years after diagnosis.

I am sorry that you have had a poor day and I hope that you soon begin to feel better.

I’m hoping it’s the right decision too.

Take care, and if your breathing is not improving ring 111, especially if the Ventolin is having little effect.

Hi @Vee70 and I'm just wondering if you may have the

beginning's of a chest infection and maybe to ask you if you were given "rescue antibiotics" for times like these? Its a difficult one when you're just diagnosed, but generally for me,and I'm not a doctor or a nurse, if I'm breathless,I can also hear my chest making sounds but not necessarily coughing much sputum up. I then start my rescue AB's and still see the doctor on Monday.

Do let us know how you are getting along. Best wishes.

Hello,

Yes i do have Clarithromycin but think i will see how i go. I am glad i took the steroids as i am breathing a little better.

I have a fair bit of sputum but generally more at night. If it changes colour, will defo take ab’s.

Will keep you posted

Thankyou so much for the advice xx
