Heavy Nasal Blockages +++

Hello everyone.

I am into my 4th week of a blocked nose, blood from nose blowing, headaches and feeling crappy all over. It is not Covid and my sats are OK

This is awful! I have looked around and notice Rhinorrhea as a possible answer

I do take 5mg of Prednisolone a day as I have had GCA/Polymyalgia

This is really getting me down and I haven't felt like this for years.

Any thoughts? Answers?

I have been using Lemsip, Paracetomol, Olbas Oil (rubbed on chest and throat) loads of water, antibiotic ointment to rub in my my nasal passages and Fishermans Friends.

Thank you

David

Whilst I'm not a medic or qualified in any way, I do have had a long history of sinusitis, extremely painful longlasting headaches (was treated for migraine for years) which turned out to be totally blocked sinus cavities (in forehead and cheeks) with a very slim escape route for mucus down to nostrils. This was from CT scan of face/head by ENT consultant. Had an op in 22007 and ever since used prescribed steroid nasal spray (Ì have to buy it now). If I feel the pressure building in my head I use acupressure points (youtube) to relieve the pressure.

Sterimar, a sterile saline nasal spray can help from pharmacies and supermarkets.

Have u tried antihistamines? Otc loratidine or cetrizine are effective and inexpensive.if you've rhinosinusitis, i was told - don't blow nose too hard as u can force mucous into sinuses, making thm more congestedd; inhaling steam gently is supposed to b gd for nose, sinuses + airways: I take a decongestant sudafed/phenylephrine. When mine r very bad, I flush mine with cooled boiled water - it helps. If after this yr still having probs, see dr - u may need antibiotics x

i would see your doctor. There may be more going on than over the counter medicines can deal with.

I use Sterimar anti nasal congestion relief daily. It is perfectly safe as it is salt water. Works great for me , immediately relieves blocked nose and no side effects. xxSheila 👍

Hi I suffer with sinuses for years. But still can't find anything that works. Now on oxygen makes it works. But will try Sterimar.

I use a neti pot every day to wash out my nasal cavity with warm salty water. This seems to keep blocked sinuses at bay. Available on the net it is like a small gravy boat with a nozzle and I turn my head and run the water gently through each nostril. Works for me.

hi , I take routine 5mg prednisolone ….I have ongoing sinus problems too.

I wonder if it’s a side effect , but can’t stop taking them now as my body is dependent .

Tried sterimar , olbas oil but little difference sadly .

hi. I also have vasculitis and suffered badly from sinusitis. All the ent doctors that I saw recommended neilmed sinus rinse. It’s available from chemists Amazon and eBay. Make your own saline solution as per the nhs website. It’s not pleasant to do but it does work. I would also speak to your PMR team who could send you for ct scan of your sinuses. I think shonkie’s netti pot works in the same way. You need to get this sorted as you are immune compromised as I am. Mine always turned into chest infections. Sterimar helps as does sticking your head over a bowl of steaming water. Good luck sinusitis is horrible.

I think a few of us here suffer with sinusitis and until my op it was a major problem. I used antihistamine, washed out my nose with Sterimar ( I dont trust the two water even if its boiled) and used menthol crystals in hot water and a towel. I hope you can find something to help, if these dont work then get back to your doctor for a referral to ent . Good luck x

Thank you all very much! I'm still feeling a bit rough. I will take some of this wonderful advice and hopefully be well soon. David :)

I had a lovely phone conversation with my GP a couple of days ago and am on the mend! I have been taking Amoxicillin and Mometasone spray along with paracetamol and although I won't be frolicking in the meadow for a while it's absolutely wonderful to be able to sleep :)
