Hello, I too am a sufferer of bronchiectasis which includes having a regular cough. If you have been diagnosed with bronchiectasis by a respiratory consultant you should be monitored by the respiratory team at the hospital. I see my consultant once a year now but speak to the respiratory nurse a few tines during the year. If I have any questions the nurse will report back to my consultant.

You just mention the cough you have. If you haven't been seen by a consultant for a while i would suggest its time to get your doctor to refer you back or if you can, speak to your consultant's secretary and ask advice. Wishing you well.

Try Lactose-free milk. Suggested on this forum. It stopped my brother's cough. He had IPF.

I’ve had bronchiectasis for over 50 years, part of my PCD. Yes try to see Consultant, meanwhile do postural drainage. When my cough gets bad, can’t stop, I eat a dry Ginger biscuit, usually helps! Good luck. Jean

Hi Morrison, Hope you don't mind me asking but when you say "dry" ginger biscuit is there a particular one you buy? I have bronchiectasis and would like to try that when I can't control my cough. Thank you.

I had a persistent cough for 5 years from 2012. I was diagnosed with bronchiecstasis and asthma. I was tried on all sorts of meds to help my breathing and stop the cough. I also had frequent chest infections so in an attempt to stop the potential damage to my lungs, I was put on an antibiotic, azithromycin, as a probiotic, and about 3 weeks after starting them I stopped coughing! This was over 5 years ago and the only time I’ve coughed since then is when I caught Covid earlier this year!

I read somewhere on here that COVONIA HERBAL MUCUS COUGH SYRUP from Boots can help, maybe worth a try.I trust that you have rescue packs of antibiotics from from GP to use in the event of a flair-up.

No have not a rescue pack

Each Health Trust must have different processes. I was diagnosed 2 years ago and the Consultant advised my GP to prescribe rescue packs of antibiotics which I would use in the event of suspecting an infection. I also have direct contact with a Chest Clinic and have had Zoom meetings to teach me breathing techniques and was sent sputum test pots to use if much mucus, so I would use the sputum pot to hand into surgery, which would go to Lab for testing. If found to have an infection, GP would prescribe suitable a/b.Hope this helps.

Since starting drinking eucalyptus tea I hardly cough anymore. Also one needs to drink lots of water and for me it has to be warm water. I noticed the the warm water relieves my cough. I take no medications other than drinking the tea.
