Persistent cough

I do suffer from Bronchiectasis and know that coughing is something we have to suffer quite a lot. I have been doing really well until of late when I had a chest infection treated with my normal rescue pack of antibiotic. A couple of months ago I had a cataract operation done and have since due to the chest infection had to cancel 2 pre-op appointments to get the left eye done. Can anybody tell me what I can take to stop this cough so I can get the second eye done. I have 6 weeks till I go on holiday and would so love to get this second eye done in time to get some new glasses organised before going away. Any help would be appreciated

I take codeine linctus and oxycodone (prescribed by the palliative team at Harefield transplant unit) for the incessant cough and breathlessness and they help.

If your cough is due to the amount of mucus you have or allergies due to pollen then take antihistamine to dry things up, or if like me its all in your sinus's use a nasal spray, Otravine is a good one. Its terrible having a cough that you cant control, especially when you need something surgical. I hope you find something to help so you can enjoy your holiday x

You need to get the gunk up daily. It’s essential for Bronchiectasis.

Lie on your back over pillows/cushions etc for about half an hour and cough up the sputum. You’ll feel so much better after.

I have to do postural drainage twice a day, more when I have a chest infection. It keeps me sane, and alive!

Best wishes, Diane 😊

talk to your doctor about that in view of your bronchiectasis . I have atypical bronch and dont cough as long as i have steroid inhaler and use it morning and night.

I had problem when i had one eye done and waiting for second i broke my leg . as i live in 3 storey house by myself i was not allowed to go home so had to spend 6 weeks in old folkd ward in hospital . because of the being in hospital enviroment i had to wait even longer, worse still and go o n to the waiting list again ! i think it was nine months between rt eye and left eye. couldnt drive , so had to rely on friends and bus

there was one compensation . the good eye had good clear vision with clear blue skies but the second had its own yellow filter so close the good eye and get wonderful interesting clouds appear in those blue skies . i like clouds that have shape of their own and incidentally i am learning about different clouds and what causes them and what they mean . this is due to a friend sending me photos with info from an organisation called the Cloud Appreciation Society. if you just google clouds there is so much info with wonderful pics.

good luck with the op

Thank you so much I will certainly take your advice as clouds fascinate me. Hopefully my eye will get done before my holiday and in time to get to the opticians for new glasses.

google clouds on internet and see what you get . i read about asperitas clouds and googled it . wow not quite as good as spotting a cloud yourself that you like . i have lots of photos of clouds taken mainly on holidays but now i am learning why they are as they are. some are unbelievable.

My GP decided my coughing was due to congestion and nasal drip so I now use a steroid nasal spray. It has worked for me this last month. X
