Morning everyone, hope your all keeping as well as can be.
Seems so many of you have never had a proper respiritory check up by a Professional. How can this be, how can people diagnose respiritory illness without it. I asked my respiritory nurse why I had never been referred to chest clinic and asked for a referal, which was done without any hesitation. It took quite a while but I have been assessed by them, any due to Covid only having phone congratulations, but I am getting assistance. So don't be fobbed off your body your life. In hospital at moment due to stoma problems, chest infection and kidney trouble oh now tested positive for Covid, but no symptoms at all for Covid. I m home today I hope all better. Please look after yourself x

U have a lot to cope with.hope u can manage at home.Trouble is very limited resources + some conditions can be diagnosed by gp with bloods, scans, xrays etc and indeed, managed well by gp and respiratory nurse.respiratory clinics & wards are always busy.in community there actually r some v gd resources
I was diagnosed with COPD after a spirometry done at the surgery. I was only referred to a specialist when various inhalers prescribed by the GP failed to result in controlling my symptoms. It isn't always necessary for a specialist to be needed if a GP can diagnose and treat without any problems as Patk1 said. I am no longer under the care of the specialist when there was no more he could do.
Great that you got to see a specialist but not everyone needs to see a specialist or if referred and seen, needs to remain on their list. It is only if gp cannot deal with condition that you are usually referred. I have been referred several times but once was stable was referred back to gp care.
