Looks like I have come to the point where I now need a stairlift , as it is becoming increasingly difficult to negotiate the stairs now . I wondered if any members have one of these and if so , can they give any recommendations or advice as to what to look for when purchasing. Would be grateful for any help. Thanks.

That looks a very useful site skischool . Try this link - I've taken off the extra word that had somehow attached itself to your link - ridc.org.uk/features-review...
Well done jabber and i am sure beachballs will find the site very helpfull thank you very much..
😊
You're welcome! I discovered some time ago when wanting to access a report someone had provided a link to, that the problem was an apparently nonsensical addition to the link address. I've no idea how it happens but it seems to be a frequent problem.
When I worked, I used to use The Disabled Living Foundation for advice like this, they have a website: livingmadeeasy.org.uk, just another source for you, good luck with this. Some Councils and Boroughs, will offer advice, even if they are not going to fund this work.
I have had one since our 25th wedding anniversary and i wouldn't be without it to be honest. Though i brought mine due to RA, but now i have copd i think it will help with that.xxx
I have had an Stairlift installed about a month ago and it is great as my husband has trouble with his back and I have COPD since 2011, it was expensive but has been worth every penny to us, they gave us a quote on the Friday and I had it fitted on the Monday which was brilliant as I had a fall in august and was stuck upstairs for about 4 weeks so was not very mobile but these were very I also think that sometimes the council have them fitted for you as well but my money wasnt doing much in the bank so I went ahead with it for us hope this helps.
Hi Beachballs,I have a meditek one on lease at £38 per month and its been a godsend for me on my wobbly days plus a bonus when sending washing basket upstairs and xmas tree/Dec's, highly recommended. Even though I Don't use it all the time it's knowing that if I need it I Don't have to struggle .Good luck you won't regret it.
Sorry you feel you have got to this stage ,but if it helps then gi for it I am in the process of looking for a mobile scooter dread this idea but I hardly go out the front door now and I really need a change of scenery, it's the same as you thinking of getting a chair lift ,just going upstairs can help .Good Luck and I hope you find what you want.
You can rent them on a monthly basis, I think prices vary around the country, may be worth a look.
Hi, I had a quote £4255 but our stairs has a 180 o return half landing. If your stair case has no turns it’s about 2k. I’ve seen them 2nd hand on eBay really cheap if you can get a handyman to fit one. They’re battery operated and is not rocket science to fit for anyone with a bit of savvy
Try EBay
I have an acorn stairlift which is a godsend. The company are efficient and quick. The curved ones are more expensive but they will "talk" about the price........ The only consideration for me is that the indicator light stays on permanently showing that it is charging. When I enquired, they assured me that the cost was minimal. Hope this helps!
Could be worth contacting social services who may be able to help depending on your financial circumstances. At the very least they would do an assessment and there may be other items / help that can be offered.
My son got one for my o/h off of the local Facebook Marketplace for £100. He also installed it without any experience. I won't say it was an easy job and lifting the seat and it's attached mechanism was really a two-man job but he managed by the careful placement of a small stool to help steady it.
No company would install one for us because we live in an upstairs flat and have a door at the bottom of the stairs so the stairlift doesn't land on a flat surface and is deemed a health and safety risk. It's been a godsend for me too because obviously, living upstairs, I have to get all the shopping deliveries up. Before Covid the drivers would often carry it up for me.
Had three quotes, settled in the end for Handicare they are recommended by Age-Concern, it's been in constant use for Seven years, have it serviced every year, I've no complaints.
