Hello and good morning or good evening depending on where you are in the world.
So, here it goes, first time forum user here. And what has brought me here, well, desperation really.
I have been experiencing symptoms of pleurisy for the last 2 weeks, which I have been treating with NSAID's and Paracetamol. The last 2 days I have mild clavicle pain on the right side, which is the affect lung with an more productive cough and crackles.
Do I persist with cycling analgesics and NSAID, as it maybe viral? I am not sure how long to expect symptoms to start resolving.
Any advice would be super helpful, and thank you in advance.

Hi, a warm welcome to the charity funded British Lung Foundation patient's forum !Please see a gp asap, you need to get your lungs listened to with a stethoscope. I've had pleurisy 4/5 times, 3 of those lead to pneumonia and the last of the pneumonia lead to nearly a year of chronic chest infections & constant antibiotics (I think now because my immune system was wiped out). So many of us have learnt that any viral infection can lead to a bacterial infection needing antibiotics.
Many of us will sympathise with the excruciating pain of pleurisy, the inability to take a deep breath, move or cough without severe pain - I've also broken ribs and the pain is very similar indeed.
It's so vital to be able to expel any amount of mucus fro lungs otherwise it remains, leaving a perfect warm, damp environment for bacteria to multiply.
Another reason for rib pain can be costochronditis. Please do see a doc though, and soon. The last place you want to end up in at this present time with omicron variant is A&E or a hospital ward.
Good luck, let us know how you get on. P

As stated by Peege you urgently need to see gp. I have had pleurisy 4 time and pneumonia at least once. All times have required numerous courses of antibiotics and steroids and I have been unwell for a number of months.Am not saying this to scare you but to emphasise need to see gp.
Thank you for your thoughts. So the update is I finally managed to speak to a Doctor today with a physical appointment tomorrow for a check, and then we will go from there. Poor NHS is so stretched, really feel for them. Managed to get some better pain relief combo sorted at home, so feeling a bit of relief π
