do inhalers cause pain in your sternum?

Im wondering if any of you have experienced a discomfort in your sternum when breathing deeply? Weird question I know. In September I had covid and thankfully only had very mild symptoms. Two weeks later I had a chest infection and ended up on antibiotics and steroids. Since then I have had to change my inhaler from Seretide 100, 1 puff x2 daily to Seretide 250 2 puffs x2 daily. Im not sure if this pain in my sternum is a lingering side effect due to the chest infection or to the increase in Seretide. My GP thinks its muscular but its now been over a month since the chest infection. I have an appointment with my asthma nurse in a few weeks. Thanks for reading!

Hi and welcome. I would say that it's unlikely that inhalers are causing the pain. Muscular aches and pains can take quite a while to ease. May be worth asking if your appointment with your asthma nurse can be brought forward to discuss your concerns with her. Hope you feel better before long.

That is a hard question to answer. If you had a bad cough with your infection it certainly could be a muscular issue as a result of excessive coughing or working harder to take a deep breath. I was doing some work outside and when I woke up the next morning my right wrist was very sore so assumed I stained or sprained it. After two weeks wasn’t any better so went to the doctor and he said the same, it was likely a sprain. It is now over three weeks and the pain is still almost the same so it can definitely take some time to recover and it seems muscle pan can drag on longer than a person would expect. The other thing is it is hard to rest muscles that are needed to breath so I think recovery can take a bit longer. The fact remains that it may not necessarily be muscular so best to try to see it you can move up your appointment just t be on the safe side.

Good luck and hope things improve soon.
