Thinking you might mean montelukast?? If so, no such side effects for me since the very early days as I waited for it to settle. What I have recently discovered is that I need to take it mid-evening not at bedtime. After years of doing this, I never linked it to my increasing need to get up to go to the bathroom several times during the night. I was putting it down to increasing age.
When I eventually thought of consulting a doctor, I thought I’d check out my bedtime meds first…..why hadn’t I thought of this before 🙈🤷♀️
I found that if I take the montelukast at about 8pm, abracadabra, I sleep much much longer before the bathroom calls. Wonderful! 😴😴😴
Ah that's really interesting Yatzy. I shall try taking mine earlier evening (along with my magnesium 🙄) I the hope it'll prevent so many bathroom calls. If its a 5am one that's it, no more sleep for me, sometimes it's 2am and cannot get back to sleep . I dont know where it comes from as, like a child, I restrict fluids after 8pm .Sorry Hazel, no side effects to report. Peege
After a busy day, sorting out emptying my mum’s house, yesterday. I was asleep in my armchair through to 10pm….missed my pill time! So montelukast was back to a late dose. Result: more loo visits again. I’m sure there’s a link for me. All these breaks in sleep are so tiring!
I'd have left it off for one night Yatsy. I did take mine earlier last night and amazed this morning that I had a decent night's sleep with only one trip to the loo. Yay! This could be a revelation so thank you 🤗
It’s a huge improvement for me, so hope it continues for you too, peege. Btw I took your advice a month or two ago about timing prednisolone dose to very early morning, plus snack. Worked a treat! Avoided almost all the loss of sleep, which is always such a nightmare, and must surely aid recovery as well as comfort. So thank you for sharing! 🌻🍁🍂
One more snap! I moved away from a factory in rural Wales three years ago, and my use of pred has reduced significantly too. I’ve got it down to annually now, fingers crossed, and it might improve again yet 🤞
Unbeknownst to me at the time, what seemed like a fairly harmless wood processing factory was churning out formaldehyde 24/7, across a beautiful valley in my direction. I’m sensitive to salicylates, basis of my asthma, and formaldehyde in any form a big no-no, even off the unsealed backs of Ikea furniture! (We have to paint it over, or buy better) It’s part of the mdf wood manufacturing process. So difficult to avoid pollution in all its forms!
Another snap, we have the same name I think - I'm Penelope! That is staggering re the salicylate & formaldehyde, scary.
Much as I love my home in Gloucestershire I have to move east to Ely, the nicest place near enabling me to support my sister when she's home from hospital (stroke 4/5 weeks ago), it'll be 10 minutes from one of my offspring who's expecting a 3rd in Nov (I'll be able to pick up 5 year old grandson from school regularly🤞). Downside is its a mile from the busy A10 & diesel fumes, may be wearing a mask forever.
Sorry to highjack your post Hazel, at least we're still on health and breathing 😘
Yes, I’m another Penelope! But usually answer to Penny, since I left school anyway 😂 Good luck with the house move. I hope your sister makes good progress, and the extra contact with your grandchildren made possible sounds delightful 💞
Hi Interesting that you say anxiety and panic, I have seen this recently on the internet regarding Montelucast:
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is strengthening existing warnings about serious behavior and mood-related changes with montelukast (Singulair and generics), which is a prescription medicine for asthma and allergy.
We are taking this action after a review of available information led us to reevaluate the benefits and risks of montelukast use. Montelukast prescribing information already includes warnings about mental health side effects, including suicidal thoughts or actions; however, many health care professionals and patients/caregivers are not aware of the risk. We decided a stronger warning is needed after conducting an extensive review of available information and convening a panel of outside experts, and therefore determined that a Boxed Warning was appropriate.
Because of the risk of mental health side effects, the benefits of montelukast may not outweigh the risks in some patients, particularly when the symptoms of disease may be mild and adequately treated with other medicines. For allergic rhinitis, also known as hay fever, we have determined that montelukast should be reserved for those who are not treated effectively with or cannot tolerate other allergy medicines. For patients with asthma, we recommend that health care professionals consider the benefits and risks of mental health side effects before prescribing montelukast.
Yes, I’ve come off this because of all the warnings from the US. It used to give me stomach pain. Tbh I haven’t notice much difference asthma/allergy wise.
about a year ago i was put on it .took 1 tab and within hours i was in a and e .allergic reaction .all over body rash .raised an red hot .nurses couldent believe it so they gave me some cream and steriod tabs to sort it out .that was my 1st and last tab
Because I take my blood pressure medication at night, and wanted to reduce the number of tablets I was knocking back in one go, I take my Montelukast in the morning with no unpleasant side effects. Just another thought if your nights are being disturbed. I’ve been doing this for a few years now.
