Hi me again and I would like to thank everyone who replied to me on my post regarding Colomycin. I’ve got another question and wondering if anyone can help me with it. I’m being put onto Morphine as I’ve been having lots of problems with my breathing recently and it’s so like panic attacks because I cannot get my breath. I’ve never had panic attacks before and I’ve always been independent so I find this so difficult losing control of part of me. I’ve not started them yet as I am waiting for pharmacy to deliver it. I’m not too worried but would like advice on how tired it could make me
Thank you

Hi breslin, by morphine, are you being given Oramorph?
When I came out of hospital my breathing anxiety was really bad and they gave me this to help. Probably because "morphine" has such a stigma, I didn't take it for a while. When I did, however, I was pleasantly surprised: I didn't feel "out of it" or tired. I now very rarely have anxiety over my breathlessness (yes it IS possible!), but use it before I go out. I have anxious feelings about leaving the house and I find if I take it 30 mins before I go out and sit quietly taking some deep breaths, the anxiety just disappears!
If it's not Oramorph, then I can't help! Please ask if I can help at all 😊 Laurie xx
Thank you so much Laura. It’s not oramorph but I think it must be similar. I spoke to the pharmacist and she said that it was prescribed for breathlessness and not to worry. I’ve to take 1 ml 4 times daily when required, but I'lltake 1/2 ml to start with.
But thank you for your response. This is the first time I’ve ever had this problem
Hi there, as Oromorph is similar and is also prescribed in a very low dose you could write Oromorph in the search bar and a lot of posts and their replies will come up written by people who take it to help their breathing. I recall several members have found it very helpful.
I take 1.25ml of Morphine Sulfate ( Oramorph) as required and tend to stick to 4 doses a day. I was very reluctant at first due to the stigma of addiction and potential drowsy which would affect driving. After a bit of research on NHS info I went for it and find it dose help
It too me a while to start using my prescribed Oromrph - 1,25 twice daily as required but I now take it only at night as my cough is worse then. I do find it very sweet and unpalatable though.
