Another hot one

β€’69 Replies

Yet another extremely hot day and finding it difficult to find a cool spot , and by August it will be at its hottest . Had a rough day I'm now double dosing my Meds and it may be going down the right road but I've still had eleven seizures today , the heat isn't helping I guess . I make sure I keep hydrated but inside the house is as hot as outside πŸ˜‚ Aircon causes breathing problems so got to avoid that the pulmonologist warned me it's ok in big stores using Aircon but in smaller rooms like in the house it's a no go so I have fans all over the place but it just pushed the hot air around the place. I'm actually looking forward to October or November when it decides to cool down and I'm going to spend the first rainy night sat outside 🀣🀣🀣

I think we all enjoy the sunshine and warmth but it heat wise this year as got hotter than normal and a lot sooner than normal , usually it's joggers and t.shirts in February this year it's been shorts and t.shirts and on Greek news it was saying that chickens are not laying eggs because of the heat something that as never before happened and next year is expected to be hotter 🀣🀣🀣 this rate it will be like living in a desert 🀣🀣🀣 you take care and keep safe πŸ‘πŸ‘

Sorry you are having a rough time and hope you soon begin to feel better. Not been that hot here by Greece's standards but I'm glad it has cooled down non the less.

β€’ in reply toCDPO16

It's not at it's hottest yet come August it will be and were all wondering how hot it is going to get , I have now put four large tubs of water with ice cubes in shaded areas for the cats and keep them filled up through the day . 😹😹😹 Wouldn't want to have all that fur 😹😹😹

Just about managed to cut mine last week 😁

β€’ in reply toCDPO16

Everything seems to be a struggle I promised myself a couple of days ago I was going to do it and forgot , I forget stuff regularly because of these seizures they last only seconds but the problems they cause last for days . I'll be glad when their under control .

So do I πŸ₯Ί the scary bit about all of this is I'm totally alone apart from my stepfather who is bedridden so if I drop and don't get up he's not going to be able to call for help . The only safeguard I have is a Greek Australia friend calls me every morning and each evening to check on me and my Dutch friend always pops down at night to check up on me . Never mind I look forward and enjoy each day and it's challenges as they come . Hope you keep safe and have a good evening πŸ˜ƒπŸ˜·

Thinking of you and wishing it would cool down.

β€’ in reply toAlberta56

Me too 🀣🀣 talking to a neighbor tonight he said tomorrow is going to be hotter and the doctors are advising that people stay in doors from 12 pm until at least five in the evening . But you won't believe how many tourists walk around in it and without any water with them something even the locals do 🀣🀣🀣 crazy people

It’s awful to feel that way but I know what you mean. When it was so hot here I had all the curtains drawn as my place faces the hot afternoon sun.i couldn’t go out in it so I was putting the TV on to brighten it up. It’s cooled down now to what it was thankfully and to a nicer warmth. Don’t get me wrong. I love the summer but we get so much humidity with heat that it makes it unbearable.

β€’ in reply toMavary

I just went to the pharmacy to top up my Meds and I had a seizure while I was in there fortunately the pharmacist knows my condition and knows how to deal with it , I knew nothing about it but she was more concerned about me going back home in case I had another one , today the heat just seems so intense . Sat inside blinds closed and enjoying the total silence πŸ˜‚πŸ‘

Mavary profile image
Mavaryβ€’ in reply to

Hi Dave. Do you not worry about being on your own if you have a seizure. I can understand why the pharmacist was concerned.

β€’ in reply toMavary

Yes I do worry but there's not a lot I can do about it , I just have to deal with it the best way I can . Sometimes I can tell when one is coming on so make sure I'm sat down but other times they just happen most only last a few seconds some minutes but on the odd occasion I can lose a couple of hours . The pharmacist out here have medical training fortunately so they can advise on most things but when it is out of their comfort zone they can refer you to the right specialists . We have one doctor who visits the village once a week so it's handy having pharmacists who can help .πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚

Mavary profile image
Mavaryβ€’ in reply to

It must be quite scary for you.Our pharmacists know as much as a Dr but can’t prescribe for you. You can see our Drs five days a week. At the weekend if it’s an emergency we have a minor injuries hospital. I live on my own too so am in the same boat if anything happens to me. My Son does keep a check on me at least a couple of times a day.

β€’ in reply toMavary

That's good I'm glad you at least have that , one thing seriously worries me and it may sound morbid but it's dying alone . Loneliness is the worst of all I'm in a beautiful place with beauty all around fantastic food and weather but I would give all that away to not be alone . Sad but true but anyway I put a smile on my face and take each day as it comes ,πŸ˜ƒπŸ˜ƒ

Mavary profile image
Mavaryβ€’ in reply to

None of us know if we are going to be alone. I’m alone most of the time. I have got four Sons I can call at any time but who knows if I would be fit enough to call anyone. We just don’t know. It is quite scary but to be honest we could be anywhere and it can happen. I just hope for me when it does it’s quick and I don’t know about it. I think everyone is in the same place. Enjoy what you have and where you are. You know you love where you are. Just don’t think about tomorrow because tomorrow never comes.

Of course it’s going to cross your mind. It does mine but I try to put it at the back of my mind.

You look after yourself.

β€’ in reply toMavary

Very wise words , I will try to practice them each day . But I guess even you have days when you feel like throwing in the towel . Even beauty withers with time . Take care and keep safe it's lovely being able to talk without feeling like I'm moaning and groaning πŸ˜‚πŸ‘

Not at all. I’m having a bad day myself. I can’t do much because of the four fractures in my back and on top of that I’ve got vertigo today. So that’s stopped me. I got up with good intentions but they’ve been scuppered. I did just manage to put the hoover round the lounge, I’ve made my bed and had a shower. That’s about it.

β€’ in reply toMavary

Pretty much like me πŸ˜ƒ I had some plans for today I went to the pharmacy had to call across the road originally going for fresh bread from the bakers and ended up having a seizure so that put an end to my day . Like you my spine has been damaged I have four annular tears and three herniated discs which all seven have now compressed so I have a harness . I had an appointment with the orthopedic surgeon on the 26th but 800euros just for the consultation is out of reach πŸ˜„ everything here has a price tag on it 🀣🀣

Mavary profile image
Mavaryβ€’ in reply to

I’ve got a harness from three years ago when I had the first three fractures but because of covid I haven’t had any advice whatsoever. I have been waiting in for a call from someone who is going to get me some help with housework and ironing. They were supposed to ring today but haven’t. I put the cleaner around the lounge then had to sit down. It’s so frustrating.

β€’ in reply toMavary

I can understand your frustration , sometimes I get through half a job and can't go anyfurther and I'm left cursing πŸ˜‚ you can get cleaners her for twenty euros a day but unfortunately you do so at your own risk as some have very light fingers and none are Greek . The one thing I do love here is you put the hose pipe in the house and wash out because it's all marble floor tiles and plug sockets are usually half up the walls πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚

Mavary profile image
Mavaryβ€’ in reply to

Sounds brilliant. I expect it will dry in not very long. I’ve just had the lady ring me but she’s given me another number for age concern to sort the form for me to get support. I didn’t think they were going to ring today as it’s gone 6.00pm. It all sounds complicated to me.

My Son had a cleaner. My Son is very tech savvy and had cameras all over the house. He still has. He can watch inside even when he’s on holiday. Well the camera set off his phone one day and he saw the cleaner going through a drawer in the bedroom. She soon had the sack.

β€’ in reply toMavary

πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚ don't blame him you can't trust everyone . I just checked the island covid counter another 51 cases today most of them tourists , it's getting worrying for the locals . I can understand because the amount of cases on the island were minimal now going through the roof . It may not sound many to UK standards but it is a small island πŸ˜‚

HavHa! I don’t think any cats are owned. Everyone else owns mine. Mine went for my leg yesterday. He did get a smack on the bottom though. I can’t afford to have bites or scratches because I end up in hospital where I tear so much. He used to be really awful biting and scratching but I have controlled a lot out of him. He laid right across the exit for going out to the back garden. I was coming in and he grabbed my trousers not me luckily. I can’t allow him to do it though. He has always been unpredictable. He is so lovable most of the time and hasn’t tried to do anything for a long time. I still love him to bits though.

Mavaryβ€’ in reply to

Ha Ha! It ought to be. People think he’s a little sweetie. That is until the devil comes out. Actually he’s calmed down a lot to what he was when he first came to me. He actually came into my house. I went to smooth him and just avoided being clawed by him. You would think that would put me off but oh No! He kept coming. He obviously didn’t like his home. He was three years old then. He was always out day and night then. It’s a long story of why I started to feed him. I don’t think his family were home very often and I believe he was ruffed up. He has had to learn to stand on his own four feet. He goes to other people for food when I’m not up early enough for him but he’s always waiting at the door come rain and shine at 9.00 am. And he also is in most of the day. He came in soaking wet one morning where he had laid in the rain waiting for me. He could stay in all night but won’t.

β€’ in reply toMavary

Cats are funny like that they know they can stay in and be safe but still prefer to be out . All the cats here including my kitten Satan are ferrel and your not supposed to be able to get anywhere near a ferrel cat . He makes me laugh though he turns up with two of his brothers who won't come anywhere near me he comes sits on my lap purring and he loves it when I get the hosepipe on the go to wash the yard down he sits under the stream of water . He attacks my Dutch friend when I'm outside talking with him Satan gets between us with his ears back hissing at him . Must admit he is a cracking cat with character πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚ saw something on YouTube today about ten herbs for healthy lungs and can relieve c.o.p.d don't think so some how πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚

As soon as it gets dark Sandy is out. He’s in all day though. In the winter he’s in all day and night apart from going out to do his business. I wouldn’t take any notice of wonder cures. I’m afraid they just want your money. If there was such a thing our NHS would be the first to get it as they want us all off their books. And I’m sure you would get to know of it over where you are pretty quick.

I can phone my pharmacist to get my meds ordered. They also deliver them to me. I suppose we are lucky in England that they will do that. That’s only if you are a pensioner or have a disability. My Son orders them on line and they get delivered through the post.

Hi DaveyI am the same when it gets too hot, used to love it when I was younger but find it so exhausting today. I saw a tip on the Internet to half fill a hot water bottle then freeze it. Works a treat for me. I have 3 that I freeze and find I always have a nice cold one ready to go. Hope this helps you as much as it does me. Take care

Like you I can't take the heat, I have 6 fans around my bungalow and as I always wake up around 5 or 6 in the morning to go to the bathroom I turn them all on whilst it is cooler (then I go back to bed) and as they are moving cool air around it does seem to keep my bungalow cooler during the day. I really noticed the difference the other day when I came home from visiting a friend, I had turned them off because I was going to be out for a few hours, always nervous of leaving electrical items on in case of fire when I am out, and when I got home and walked in the door it was like an oven so I will continue to turn them on early in the morning as it really does seem to work. I recently bought a rechargeable handsfree fan, it rests round your neck and has a fan either side of you face, keeps my face cool when I go outside. Before I had my fans I used to sit with my feet in a bowl of cold water, towel handy for when I had to get up and I used to run the cold tap and let the water run on my wrists, that used to cool me down a bit. Just a few ideas for you to have a think about. Best wishes xx

β€’ in reply toSnackjack

Thanks for the tips always happy to try anything , my main problem is my bedroom I don't have a window in it and when I have my fan on it seems to just push hot air around 🀣 so all tips are gratefully received . As much as I love the heat and sun especially in the winter time here it's the most comfortable Time of the year just the right temperature . Coming back to the UK isn't a possibility for me apart from this covid business the doctor said with the seizures I'm having could cause an issue with flying then there's the issue of my body readjusting to the UK climate which takes a couple of three years to do as it does when you come out here . Plus everything that Keeps me going I'm getting here except no palative care or support so I'm grateful for this site . πŸ‘πŸ‘

Hope Your Seizures Will Ease The Humidity Must Be So Bad U Take Care Keep Safe πŸ–€πŸ–€

β€’ in reply toCaptainPugwash

All of this is because of lies told to the dwp to stop me returning to the UK so I couldn't contest my wife's divorce application , she wouldn't admit adultery because her partner was also married , so easier to stop me returning to the UK . It took three and half years before the ESA realized that they had been lied to and reinstated my ESA . By that time the damage was done . So seizures are horrible but far less upsetting than being betrayed by someone you gave your heart and soul to .
