Hi I have severe emphersima and it's raining out side.

I have trouble getting to my car as I have to park it so far down the road I'm house bound on bad days.

Spent all my days active worked outside in all weathers lived with this condition now for over five years and in that time I have struggled to get help even to just keep a car on the road as I carnt afford it pip say I'm not eligible for higher rate due to fact I could open a door at my assessment so not eligible for a disability car.

And now feeling at this moment so alone and trapped my head feels like it's not in the right place and I dont know what to do

I’m sorry you are going through such a terrible time. There are members here who have had similar battles with getting adequate financial help. It is an utterly iniquitous system. I hope you can get some help to appeal. Do you have family and friends who can help? And are you happy with the doctors you are seeing?

Hang in there, this is a great group and just knowing that you are not alone is a great help.

Mate you want constructive action???call a bloody ambulance!, you are not helping yourself or anybody else, by sitting at home alone, get help! You watch how quickly things move, when you turn up by ambulance. YOU NEED HELP! YOU ARE ENTITLED TO HELP.but, if you don't do anything! How are the hospital going to know!!!!!

If you don't mind me asking but how old are you? If you are elderly and live alone with a difficult health problem you should be getting support. Do you get any benefits? This usually helps in other ways. Are you under a consultant? Also why not ask for a home assessment? Let us know how you get on, well be looking out for another post from you.

Look after yourself. Chrys

I think you have to find the strength to sort out the dreadful situation you are in. Do you have a family member or friend to help you try to sort things out? The British Lung Foundation (BLF) would be able to advise you and direct you to a helpline and I know the Citizens Advice Bureau would also be able to help. When is your assessment happening?

Give the blf helpline a call they may be able to advise you wear to go for help and maybe able to help you get reasessed for beifits

Good idea from corriena. The number is 03000 030555

They have someone who advises on benefits.

That's a load of rubbish I have the same as you and Ihave a disability car. It took a fight almost to appeal but thy back payed 4 years. The car is a blessing for all the appointments. Get all the letters from consultants doctors. I still struggle with a car I parked in town went to a shop and couldn't make it back to the car was on the floor. I manage eventually. I had to buy breathing equipment nebuliser for emergency. I can not cook because I can start but then have to stop because breathing attack. Get local council involved get a commode toilet aids because I can not get from one room to another on them says. It's nearly every day of the year. You have to fight and get max help.

I certainly would appeal as I see no reason if you cannot walk easily to the car that you should not have the top rate. I get it. In the meantime you might find the walk a lot easier if you were to buy yourself a mobility walker you can pick them up easily and cheaply second hand and I cannot get anywhere without mine. Give it a go.

The best thing we ever did was enlist the help of Age UK. This is a completely free service.
