Miracle has happened - Stopping gluten cleared asthma

I have been using ICS for asthma for 40 years. Intolerance to dairy made asthma worse . Then the ICS caused bad candida overgrowth. Went on candida diet which included a suggestion to go gluten free, I did . Wow !!! asthma gone !!! I was on Ciclesonide 200 x2 twice a day. GP said must take it slowly coming off ICS . Changed to QVAR 100 AM & PM. Now on QVAR 100 AM and 50 PM. Still no asthma also no sinusitis, ear blockage which had since a child. No constant clearing of throat mucus so now considering stopping Carbocysteine . Will reduce to ICS to 50 AM/PM in September then who knows no ICS ever again - all caused by gluten !!!!

Gosh! That is good. And also worth passing on in case other asthmatics feel like giving it a try. I hope you can go on living asthma free for a very long time, preferably for ever. xxx

Congratulations --- if you've not already probably a good idea to check / discuss with your doctor to rule out celiac disease.

Here's to your ongoing good health.

Very best wishes

I suspect it might be a wheat intolerance working the same way as dairy/milk/cheese does - a known creator of mucus. Lungs full of mucus create wheezing.

I believe there are two avenues of thought about dairy and mucus, one say its a myth but basically just do what works for you personally.

Hi Bkin. Its not a myth for me. I love cheese and kept trying a small amount hoping it would be tolerated , but inevitably several hours later my nose and throat would fill up with mucus and I would be blowing my nose and clearing my throat for the next 24 hours. I tried goats cheese thinking that would be better tolerated but no luck. Just the same. Lungs full of mucus not good for asthmatics

Well done .....I tried gluten free for a time , sadly no difference . Tried dairy free , no difference . I am glad it worked for you . Lots of gluten free products available now .

Gentle , gentle nose breathing has helped my asthma .

I was changed to Qvar after a number of trial and error.....works well for me
