Good evening , I rarely post here but I do read the posts and occasionally make a comment .

What brings me here today is that for a few weeks I’ve been quite poorly 10 days ago I went to the dr after running a very high temp , he put me on strong antibiotics for two weeks after a few days I started to feel better , then one day last week I started coughing up blood was quite a bit and lasted all day (since then there has been nothing ) anyway I rang the Dr who sent me for an X-ray the results came back the same day and I have now been booked in for a ct scan on Thursday also I have been referred to the cancer pathway clinic and will be seen within 2 weeks to get the results of the scan and hopefully find out what if anything is going on ,,,,, just wondering if anyone else has gone through this any reassurance or advice would be appreciated

Many thanks for reading

Cales xx

Hi lesley, about every 3 months i cough up blood for 2-3 days,it's more like when i clear my thoat on the last clearance.sometimes it appears fresh and sometimes it looks like old blood.i mentioned this to my consultants team just before christmas on a routine telephone consultation and a Ct scan was ordered,i never heard any results of the scan and on a recent consultation, again over the telephone it was not even mentioned and only a further spread of my emphysema had been observed.

On the first occasion i took a course of Ab's and prednesolone, given that i also have a dodgy throat with my Barretts eosophagus it might even have been related to that and not my lungs so i also doubled up on my omeprazole(on the guidance of my gastro consutlant)and apart from continuous episodes that last about the same 3 days i don't appear to be any the worse for wear.

Sorry this is such a long and rambling reply but it is just to try and reassure you that as alarming as these episodes appear they often resolve themselves and could be the remmnants of a recent infection or if fresh blood the rupture of a few small capilliarys in your airways or throat and i hope that this is so in your case and that your CT scan is deemed normal for your present lung condition.

Best wishes Ski's and Scruff's

🙃😻x

I don’t know why but it felt to me that the blood maybe came from somewhere else I don’t know , I do know I’m scared but also calm which is weird, I have brought up specks of blood before but this was quite alot although I know it probably wasn’t that much but it lasted the whole day and nothing since …….., I am grateful for all the replies I get and thank you all so much for being patient with me xx

Hi cales, I have only coughed up blood once and only for a short time. I had an x ray but nothing was found. Naturally you are concerned now but the good thing is that your doctor has acted quickly having got your x ray result. I hope that the next few weeks will bring better news for you.

Keep in touch. Best wishes xx

Hi Cales Skischool is probably right in thinking that it was a small capillary from your throat. Since it was only that one day I'd lean towards that as well.

Don't worry about something until your given a reason to worry.

Keep well and stay safe.

Hope it turns out to be nothing serious. 😊x

Hi Cales sorry to hear you’ve experienced this. I experienced something similar and I know how alarming you would have felt. I had a bronchoscopy done the week before it happened so I’m linking that to my episode. I ended up in hospital until it had calmed down spent 10 days in total- 7 days of bleeding and another few days while the investigated more throughly. They couldn’t find anything so put t down to my lungs being sensitive to the bronchoscopy. I had a few bronchoscopies in the past with no ill effects. This particular episode happened in June 2019. I’ve not had any more invasive prodding of the lungs and no more bleeding episodes. We are two years down the line. I hope your experience is a one off. Let us know how you get on.

So sorry to hear about this episode. Hoping the scan will give you a positive outcome. It's great to read how other people have fared in similar circumstances. All the best.

Yes, the first time it happened I was told I had lung cancer and immediately booked in for more tests and surgery. The CT scan and broncoscopy showed it was not cancer so the Consultant put the bleed down to TB. 8 years later it happened again and this time at a different hospital the consultant told me that they don’t diagnose any thing until all tests have been done. He said that all though the symptoms were similar to cancer it didn’t mean it was cancer. So after CT, broncoscopy TB culture and biopsy I was diagnosed with aspergillosis. It’s horrific when a consultant mentions cancer especially before tests are completed as per my first consultant. The second consultant did explain that cancer was one possible cause but there were a lot of other things as well, and he wouldn’t guess a diagnosis until all tests had been completed.

A very distressing time for you and I think I know what is in the back of your mind. No amount of worrying is going to change or alter anything. You will have to wait, as calmly as you can, for the results from your CT scan and then go from there. Hoping you are going to come back here to report the good news that it was nothing to worry about.

Thank you I am quite upbeat which has come as a total shock to not just myself but all my family , it’s like a calm has settled on me and my attitude is come on then let’s get this done and see where we go from here 😊 I will definitely be back to share the news 😊

That sort of attitude will get you through this. It did for me, even with getting what was eventually bad news, that got even worse, yet here I am 3 1/2 years later and, hopefully, will be for years to come 👍

Hi Cales , sorry to hear that you are unwell. I have had the same thing on my recent spell in hospital, coughing up blood in sputum and blood in nose , but the the hospital reassured me that as it was sputum it was ok . My husband was also referred on the cancer pathway last year, but again his Dr re-assured him , it was a quicker way of getting things done.

Everything is fine now.

Hope things improve for you. Best wishes x🌷

Hi Cales.Lots of sensible advice posted on here.

It may be that you were referred for CT scan under the query cancer pathway as it's the fastest way to get one done urgently.

From experience I know how the wait feels.

However as others have said try to keep calm until the scan is back and you know the result.

Thinking of you.
