Steroids do nothing but common anti inflammatory drugs like ibuprofen help my problem. Isn't that weird?

Hey, i'm very confused and i need help from you all. The current therapy given by my doc is based on High dose of inhaled steroids. (On confirmed asthma and suspected copd)

With this treatment i may say i feel only 40% better atm. HOWEVER, once i started to use a common anti inflammatory drug called Ibuprofen i feel like normal again. I just need one little drop on my middle right back, where the pain and tightness is localized and... Boom. No more cough, no more mucus, no more pain.

The fact that ibuprofen also remove internal inflammation symptoms like cough, tightness and mucus and a steroid on high doses still not able to do it is strange.. What you think about?

If you are using ibruprofen daily you should notify your doctor. Iong term daily use may cause you other health issues that your doctor may wish to check. Always best to seek the advice of your doctor.

Agreed ibrufen used a lot can damage kidneys

Definitely agree! It’s one of the first things nephrologists ask you to stop because they can really damage your kidneys in the long term.

People don't realise do they that it's so toxic to kidneys

madonbrew profile image
madonbrew in reply toshouty

No! Not until they’re already damaged unfortunately! I think there should be more warning about it!

I agree, the only thing people associate with them is risk of stomach ulcers.

And they’re only over the counter tablets so people can be taking them for ages being none the wiser! 😕

The warnings are in the information leaflet that comes with the med but not every person reads it.

Hi I am really interested but what do you mean by one little dip on my back , can you buy it in liquid form??? The main reason for asking is actually because my husband was in agony last summer but with his back so he ate ridiculous amount of prescribed pain killlers before paying for an osteopath so I’m happy as a copd with arthritis to experiment rather than eat packet loads 👍🏻👍🏻😊😊

in reply toDizzart

It's a gel called lasonil

Bless you.

Please consult with your GP about any over the counter meds you take on top of those prescribed.

You and your medical team are in a partnership to help you achieve optimum health for you.

I have severe asthma ,COPD and bone lesion and was advised from a respiratory viewpoint not to take ibuprofen,as it can interact with other meds and also make some asthmatics worse.

I do hope that you are able to chat with your GP ,take their advice and feel better soon.

Hi Rose I have severe COPD and I did read what you stated

It did not affect my breathing and I was amazed that it loosened all the mucus which was stuck in my throat and brought it up immediately. I am much better thanks and no mucus now. I was having terrible panic attacks as couldn't breathe with the mucus stuck in my throat. It came up immediately I took the medicine. I took it a few times a day for over a week and because I Iove the taste of the medicine take some now and again . We are al different but I can only state my experience. Hope it works for you xxSheila 💕💕

I’d love a reply as I’m really interested especially after the huge amount of ibrufen the doctors prescribed for pain so a drop of a topical one sounds much safer and more effective . Do let us know if it can just be bought at the pharmacy 👍🏻👍🏻

in reply toDizzart

You can buy topical ibuprofen, voltarol etc... however I've never found them of any use and as they can cause worse asthma symptoms in asthmatics shouldn't be used anyway unless you know you don't react. Even the topical ones have warnings not to be used if you are asthmatic.

Well, i have an asthma diagnosis and i feel so much better using it.

I think packaging says ‘shouldn’t be taken if you have asthma’. Joy x

Hi 17dsperanza92

I was always informed that ibuprofen was bad for respiratory diseases and kidney disease so I am never able to use them .A very powerful drug that is underestimated what damage it can cause long term

Ha ha , yet I was advised by a consultant to take ibuprofen for intercostal pain , and it works . I don't take it long term , just until it starts to feel better . 🤔

It may be that using the ibuprofen in a topical form, where the problem is, is less harmful than taking it by mouth and into the body to be transported by the blood and cleared by the liver and kidneys.

Hello 17dsperanza92

I did know about that ibuprofen and I don't take it anymore, but I do take paracetamol frequently to avoid pain in my ribs headache netc, the doctors put it on my prescription. What I found was that by taken paracetamol it reduced the cough and also I don't have much mucus that I used to have before, but also I was given lansoprazole to avoid damage to the lining of the stomach while taken steroids. I know also that paracetamol can damage the kidneys too, but I feel better.
