Not all people who smoke inhale smoke to lungs. And I think people who inhale it damage lungs. Better not smoke.

Better not smoke period. Better not to expose yourself to any smoke if you value your health and your lungs.

Incidently not everyone with lung damage and breathing problems have smoked.

I smoked many years and did not know that it is very bad for me. Now I have problems with walking and I am just 42. I don't know how long will I walk. People say that some people with Copd can't walk.

Whatever country you reside Sandrute2 investigate through your doctor or consultant or respiratory nurse if you can access an on-line pulmonary rehabilitation programme, this will provide you with information how to manage your symptoms, avoid further deterioration and help you maintain a reasonable quality of life.

My consultant told me that as I had worked in the Motor Trade for over 40 years (exhaust fumes etc on a daily basis) was a contributing factor caused my emphysema so I agree it is not all down to smoking. Having said that best not to smoke.

I don't understan how fumes affect lungs. I think is important what you feel. I think it does not have high concentration like cigarette smoke.

Imagine standing on a street close to all the traffic fumes for 40 years for over 8 hours a day! Also the asbestos dust from brake linings.

Anything toxic we breathe in can cause damage to lungs and fumes frm vehicles are proven to be toxic to lungs, heart

The smoke from cars is cleaned by air. It does not have strong concentration as cigarette smokes. I see people who dont smoke and they dont complain that they have health problems. My family members dont smoke and they never say that they have something bad with lungs.

The air doesnt clean exhaust, brake ad other fumes.and its proven to cause heart, lung and other major health problems.look at articlez 2greys has shared recently! And online. It is responsible for premature deaths.Do you have any diagnosis from dr?

The fumes from vehicles are not cleaned by the air, they in fact cause pollution in the air. One of the reasons the world are trying to reduce air pollution as it is so bad for our health.

My father in his attempt to stop smoking stopped inhaling. Result: the room was full of blue fug and everyone in it was inhaling father's smoke. Not good.

I think your father does not understand the danger. Smoking couses difficulties walking. Some people can' t walk anymore even young. They are disabled. And the reason is smoking. Keep windows open, ask your father go to doctor. Pray for God. Talk with him every day.

Thanks for your advice. My father passed on some years ago, having lasted with emphysema till well past his sell by date. He was a tough and bloody minded old bird, but he never managed to kick the smoking habit.
