copd: hi i have copd i have had for... - Lung Conditions C...

Maurice, I'm sorry but "I do not inhale to my lungs"? How does that work? If I walk within 10 foot of a smoker the smoke hits my lungs - and I'm certain the same thing applies to every other person here. They say (and I believe them) that smoking in a car with a child is akin to giving them a cigarette.
I'd say stopping smoking would have significantly more impact on your lung function than any lung exerciser.
It's a free world so, each to their own, just my opinion ... which may or may not be wrong.
Best wishes
Within 50 ft for me to have to cross the road to get away from it. The city center precinct is practically a no-go zone, I have to go first thing in the morning when it's not busy.
In a city centre the traffic pollution must be far more smelly than cigarette smoke! And do a lot more damage to your lungs.
i bet there is more lung damage to people through traffic than people who smoke. i was in london once in a taxi and could hardly breath because of carbon manoxide
I have experienced that a lot in big cities too. I guess its easier and more popular to bash a smoker than a driver.
hi when i smoke i just inhale to my mouth and blow it out. i have been doing this for nearly 2 years and do not use my inhalers i have a dog so i do exercise but i am going stop smoking by using a e cig
i think using the e cig is a great idea. the sooner you start the better.
good luck and tell us how you get on. ☺
It's the way a lot of us do it, I started off with 16mg of nicotine which I have reduced over the months to 7 mg. Gave up Christmas day. Do you know what stage you are? Not using your inhalers may not be a good idea.
i went for a lung test a 2 weeks ago she said i had the lungs of a 82 year old its been like that for 2 years . i am nearly 63 and she said i will catch up with it if i stop smoking now
Yes you can slow the progression, if you stop smoking but there are other considerations such as diet and exercise. Have you had your pneumonia and flu jabs? What would really help you is pulmonary rehabilitation. It's not just exercise but also education about Copd.
Totally agree with Badbessie comments about pulmonary education. The exercise class is tailor made for people who are only able to start off slowly and the others who are capable of doing more will given exercises to suit them.
I joined these classes where I live and they have been brilliant .
My thoughts are, what about the lungs of people you blow it out at? Plus, have you thought about mouth cancer?
What about the traffic pollution from drivers because they are too lazy to walk or use public transport? A lot of car journeys aren't necessary after all. I presume the people who blame all pollution on smokers have cars? I don't and hate getting a mouthful of this from drivers which makes me cough.
Obviously I am not complaining about those who have to have cars to get out as they are essential for some people.
I agree with y_not, it's is a free world but I think you are kidding yourself by thinking by not inhaling you are not smoking or doing further damage.
i thought when you breath in your lungs got whatever was around you.
you have been very lucky ..i will keep my fingers crosser for you ☺
its all in the way u breath (breathing exercises )
Good Morning Maurice & welcome to the community. You don't day much about their lung exerciser I would be interested, more details please. It's a start to avoid inhaling, you will however still be causing damage to your lungs. Best wishes Nan.
lloyds pharmacy do an e cig i am going to use that and they also sell it at tesco and this e cig is a lot easier to use
A lot easier to use than what Maurice? - even the most advanced 3rd generation e-cigs, the ones that actually work, are no hassle to use. Good luck with whatever you use - I've been smoke-free for seven years thanks to my e-cig.
I'd be interested to know if it works for you maurice - it's bound to be better than smoking anyway. I agree the lung exerciser is a great help too.
Maurice, smoking after being diagnosed with COPD, makes you a silly billy. I guess you know better than the doctor's huh!
My husband was on ecigs for 5 years. He still got lung cancer though.
