Doing exercices when being sick of the lungs

Hello,

One of my relative is very sick of the lungs, his pulmonary capacity being very low - his treatment includes inhale bronchodilator and an oral anticoagulant.

In this context, is it a good idea to encourage him to take physical exercise, such as sophrology, yoga, Qi Gong or heart coherence - a method created by David O'Hare -?

Thank you in advance for your advice.

Depending on tolerance and circumstances, gentle excercise, e.g. yoga, can be very beneficial .

matin va , please understand , the only way around this illness that we have inflicted upon ourselves . speaking from an ex smokers prospective, is our medicines and the fitness , should you tend to neglect on either one of these , your life will detreat at a much faster rate . as the lady said, simple yoga , tie-cha , a little walking , doing the washing-up , try to do the hoovering .please nothing to much , you can sit on your chair and do the ten arm and neck movement's . i use a liter bottle of water (full) . as always please speak to your nurse , or doctore if you can get an appointment.

last week i was in quite a stupper about my ailments i phoned the medical people on this site , within twenty minutes a nurse phoned e back and was so nice and informative . put my fears to rest for a little while .

gentile exercise is half the solution , in my opinion . all the best joseph

Hello islande,

I guess gentle exercise could be possible, but I'm not certain. In any case, thank you very much for this great suggestion. We will see if it can be implemented.

Warmest regards,

Choupy

I do chair yoga and find it very beneficial.

Oh, that's interesting! I wasn't aware of this type of yoga.

It seems it should be less tiring than traditional yoga.

Thank you very much for your contribution.. Fribox.

I have done chair yoga ….just be gentle , gentle …listen to the body , start slowly …be aware of the breath at all times . Nose breathing if possible .

I find bending over makes me breathless , so take care . Legs and arm movements ….gently ..OK . Upper body twist , take care .

Chair yoga, chair Pilates, Tai chi, breathing exercises are all beneficial . Your relative could look on youtube for 'exercises for Pulmonary Rehabilitation' or 'respiratory exercises' & also breathing exercises.

I would have thought gently exercise like yoga and Qui Gong would be very beneficial, as would walking if possible. Do ask your doctor about being referred to the Pulmonary Rehabilitation program, there they would monitor your relative while helping them to exercise safely and give them a great deal of information about managing their condition. The worst thing to do is nothing, exercise and a good diet are key to managing any lung condition. Best wishes xx

Thank you very much, PaperQueen, for your advice and information.

Indeed, Pulmonary Rehabilitation seems to work well for recovery.
