AstraZenica and possible breathing probs

Hi everyone!

Has anyone else had the Astra-Zenica vaccine yet?

I had mine Friday 9.30 and had major chills, fever and breathing probs ten hours later for two days. Today which is day 6 I’ve been out for a walk ( same Sunday) both very cold days -and I have experienced very laboured breathing whilst walking. I have a very warm long & wide scarf that i keep near my mouth to help me breath in warm air-but its very worrying as I was walking very freely before my vaccine and unless I had a flare-up of COPD then my fitness level wasnt too bad-not as good as pre 1st lock down a year ago but Ive been walking 6000 steps and sometimes more on good days having pushed myself to walk further for the last 9 months. Has anyone on here had any similar problems or know if the vaccine has contributed to breathlessness?

Thank you!

Yep, AZ a week ago, had all the side effects listed on the leaflet . Fine now although during Pilates this morning was unusually breathless, nothing an inhaler couldn't sort out. P

Yes, Over the last two weeks many of us posted details of our personal experiences of having the vaccine. .Like you I had the AZ and had all the side effects plus neuropathy in hands and feet. I was ill for 4 days and then woke up with no symptoms at all. I am fine now. So yes, some people have had some unpleasant side effects, most have had very few. We reported the symptoms on line and I gave mine to my doctor who will attach them to my medical records.I have been told that if a person has particularly bad side effects its shows our immune system is kicking in.

Being unwell for a few days is a small price to pay to get us out of this pandemic and back to a more normal way of life.

Nope this helps.

Cheers.

Oh ok must of missed that-i will report mine online too then-yes true small price big reward!

I had my vaccine 2 weeks ago.I had sore arm and mt joints ached.this went away after 36 hours.

12 days on I e developed a cold sore.

I’m assuming this means y immune system is working.(im on immunosuppressants for auto immune diseases ) I’m hoping this means the vaccine is working.

I ebeen mire breathless for the past2 months.

I’m assuming it’s due to the winter weather.

Stay safe"

I had my AZ yesterday. Today I have all of the symptoms plus a temp of 38.5 and masses and masses of mucus. I am using it as an opportunity to have a good clear out, even though it is exhausting. I just keep thinking that if I feel this bad with the jab how much worse would I have been if I had caught covid.

Would breathing in a supplemental oxygen like CLear02 can or Boost Oxygen can help in a situation like of these ones described, when there is a short breath or so?

Janzo54 profile image
Janzo54 in reply toNouvelle

For me I’m not on oxygen-im looking after my daughters little pugs today so will try walking them later and see how I am today but if it continues maybe i need an antibiotic

Nouvelle profile image
Nouvelle in reply toJanzo54

But those supplemental oxygen cans Clear02 or Boost Oxygen are actually just for boosting energy, not for oxygen therapy.

Yes I did to the extreme of thinking it was my last breath. I did post all the details . I think i had a combination of most of reported reactions all at same time. Plus the pins and needles in fingers as I recovered.

Thank you Janzo54, I had my vaccine the same one as you on the 2/2/2021. I was a little extra breathless, chills , cough which I normally have was a bit worse but the most pronounced side effect was joint and muscle ache worse than my usual winter arthritic pains. It took me around four days to start improving. It seems those who had other vaccine have faired better on side effects or is it because of our existing health issues not meerly age? Hope you are still improving . Best wishes

Janzo54 profile image
Janzo54 in reply tokatieoxo60

My husband had Pfizer and he was fine except sore arm and tiredness. I think a lot of AZ people reporting side effects some whom don’t have lung problems. Yes I’m improving but the breathing isn’t as good as it was so I’m waiting to see what I’m like today, thanks

Stay well and warm!

katieoxo60 profile image
katieoxo60 in reply toJanzo54

Seems this paticular vaccine has lots of varied side effects irrespective of what health conditions you have. Stay safe & keep warm .

Annie31 profile image
Annie31 in reply tokatieoxo60

From all the reading I have done Katie, am in agreement, more people seem to have reported side effects, some really not so good, about this vaccine as opposed to the Pfizer one. My husband had the AZ yesterday and he's feeling pretty poorly today and he's very fit and healthy for 73 normally.

katieoxo60 profile image
katieoxo60 in reply toAnnie31

Hello Annie31, hope your husband recovers from this vaccine flare. I read the MHRA reports returned for a months reports on the vaccine side effects , there are far more than anticipated by many. As I take regular paracetamol I presume thats why my side effects were not so virilant I could not report them as I had more than one. I think this might shy people off going for a second vaccine from AZ. But we can only wait and see. Take care both of you.

Annie31 profile image
Annie31 in reply tokatieoxo60

Yes there is no doubt on this and it does seem to me that the side effects from the Pfizer seem to be more in keeping with flu-like symptoms than the AZ - some of those reported seem to be way more than flu -like in severity! It may well be because of underlying conditions in most cases but some may not make it for the second dose. It will be interesting to see how that pans out.

katieoxo60 profile image
katieoxo60 in reply toAnnie31

Totally agree with you. As they say watch this space

Janzo54 profile image
Janzo54 in reply toAnnie31

It does seem to be very individual the response, I would certainly have the second jab as its a step in getting back to some normality so worth the side affects i think

Hi, I had the Astra Zeneca vaccine this Monday and started feeling unwell with severe headache and breathing problems on Tuesday. Now day four headache has gone but I still have breathing problems. Like you I've been unusually well for the past year since since I've been shielded and was fine prior to the vaccine.

Janzo54 profile image
Janzo54 in reply tojacqueline11

Well today I was better-might have been due to the steroid but it was a very low dose-hope your breathing improves!

Response profile image

I heard a scientist say that side effects can actually be a good thing as it shows your body is doing whatever it's supposed to be doing from a vaccine.

It could also be a coincidence that you were a bit under the weather from sudden cold air etc .

Hope it is all ok.

Janzo54 profile image

True-im ok again today thanks!

Elpojohn profile image

I had the 2nd Pfizer and been ill 2 days with fever and chills ,taken Panadol to help . The 1st vaccine gave me no ill effects. Feeling a bit better today, dreading the nightime though.

Janzo54 profile image
Janzo54 in reply toElpojohn

Yeah nights are worse somehow-surprised the second jab gave bigger response, get well soon

Jaybird19 profile image
Jaybird19

Have you deduced anything from this .? The list of side effects I was given is so long that I think we could attribute almost any thing to the jab. And might continue to do so too . Human nature. A week on and I was convinced that my sensitivity to cold was altered by the jab ! I had one day very cold and the next day the opposite when we w ere told it was actually the coldest day for years . This a week after. Both Pfizer and Astra Seneca seem to cause some problems. My stepson in his late sixties has always had immunological problems and when he asked his consultant for advice this was told to have the Zeneca rather than the Pfizer. I don't know why. His sister is even worse than him . Her whole body is involved not just her skin. I doubt she will have either. How do you feel now ? It was very cold this week much colder than we are used to in UK and I have always found that cold affects my breathing and I retreat behind a scarf like you.

Take care

Janzo54 profile image
Janzo54 in reply toJaybird19

Just got back from a walk of 5000 steps and I was ok today! I took just one 5mg steroid plus inhalers this morning before I went.

So it will be a week tomorrow since vaccinated.

Janzo54 profile image
Janzo54 in reply toJaybird19

To be honest i dont know but it was very cold yesterday too and my breathing was back to my normal. My oxygen stats were back up to 97 yet before 93. I do think it was the vaccine affecting my breathing but im ok again now.

Jaybird19 profile image
Jaybird19 in reply toJanzo54

I am glad your breathing is back to normal . cold always makes my breathing worse and I think the combination of vaccine with already damaged lungs is something the doctors should report on. I wonder if any people with damaged lungs were in the trials originally? I have reported my problems but i want to talk to a doctor before I have the second. I think the combination of symptoms that I had all together same time caused my breathing to be so bad. I truly thought I had had it..

Hi. I had the Pfizer vaccine & 3 days later found myself very breathless with an erratic heartbeat. This episode lasted for 3 days & I ended up seeing the Dr & having an ECG as I was concerned. By that time it seemed OK again.I have Bronchiectasis & think I have some immune issues so I am quite wary about having a 2nd jab. 👍

Izb1 profile image

Thats very worrying Lfcpremier. I am going for mine tomorrow and wondering if this is the right decision. Hope you settle down now and have no more problems , get straight back to the gp if you do x

Lfcpremier profile image
Lfcpremier in reply toIzb1

Seriously.. You must go. Covid is so bad & we are so lucky to be able to get a vaccine. I am fine now but I will consult dr/resp person to check if I should have the Astra zeneca one 2nd time. I have read that we have a stronger reaction for the 2nd jab. Thanks anyway! 💕

Janzo54 profile image
Janzo54 in reply toLfcpremier

I agree-if my side effects were anything like the real thing i would be very worried.

My sister died last year of Covid and my brother in law has just come out of hospital with long Covid. It would kill me for sure so its worth the side effects

Janzo54 profile image
Janzo54 in reply toLfcpremier

Oh thats not good but good news that your ok again now! Without second jab you wont have immunity though? Tough decision

I had the Astra Zenica one at lunchtime. I woke the following evening burning up. I took a couple of paracetamols and was ok the next morning. I walked out to our local garage to get my car, came home and got my lunch. I then sat down and was absolutely shivering. I took my temperature and it was up slightly so I took another couple of paracetamols and after they worked I was fine. So not too bad. I know of a couple of other people who were quite rough with it like you for a couple of days.

Hi cheriebobo here. Had my vaccination at 5pm..truth is I was terrifday allday before.. My sister got Pheizer jab the. Day before and had severe reactions chills muscle aches.. Headache.. The lot she has Lupus so felt exhausted.

My appointment was for mass vaccination at Inverclyde sports centre.

Told beforehand that we were getting Astra Venica...

The organisation was fantastic.. Didnt have to wait in cold.. But when in The queue.. We were informed that stocks of Pheizer were in and we werenow having Pheizer... Well I panicked.. as having bronchiectasis. Asthma.. And coughing blood.. I was afraid I'd have same bad reaction as my sister.... 5pm..jabbed... No pain at all.. Bit woozy so sat for20 min in case my allergies kicked in.. Drove home.. Cuppa tea... Tiny bit headache... Waited...

Ate dinner... Tired.. Stress lifting...wentto bed.. Had a good sleep... This morning.. Fine. Hardly any pain in arm... So two sisters. And 2 different reactions..

Today my sister feeling a bit better but seems to have a kidney infection.. I have a bit of a woozy head.. my normal idiotic self.. 😅🙄 ... so good result.. hope everyone gets jab soon.. I think no matter what one we get.... its far better than nothing at all.. Freedom ahead hopefully soon.. Xx

Margarita and the woofs.. 🐩🐩🐩
